One of these day's I'm gonna climb that mountain. Walk up there, among them clouds. Where the cotton's high, and the corn a growin, and there ain't no fields to plow.

One of my favorite actors. Played in lots of western movies. When he would his house in the mornings to go to work, he always told his wife, I going out to play now.

"I'd walk along behind, bustin' up clods with my own bare feet."

When small, I spent hours walking behind my neighbors plowing with their AC WD and, later, 45. That 45 with a 3 bottom plow was an amazing thing. I was fascinated.

I never saw him in a movie that he didn't look old. He was great in "To Have and To Have Not" with Humphrey Bogart, and Lauren Bacall (in her first film, I think).

Yeah, kinda like Gabby Hayes. Brennan and Hayes both looked ancient for 40 years. Hayes had all of his front teeth purposely pulled as a young man to make him look like an old codger. Brennan was especially good in Rio Bravo.

Walter Brennan was a great actor.. Movies to sitcoms.. He could play westerns to "modern" day detective movies.. His voice was distinctive due to being gassed in WWI.. I grew up to the McCoys....

He owned a ranch about 30 miles north of my cabin at Wallowa Lake. I have been to his ranch many times. Became acquainted when we did draft horse sales at Sisters Oregon.

My favorite movie he was in was "Red River"...he said, "You was wrong Mr. Dunson". Also Montgomery Clift got his first big role in this, playing opposite of John Wayne. Certainly one of my all time favorites.

Yup; grew up watching "The Real McCoys." Richard Crena went on the play numerous roles, like Rambo's ex-commander. I don't remember the woman's name but I see her face and hear her twang easily.

Kathy Nolan played Kate. I was just a little kid,but I knew a good lookin woman when I saw one,and she was a good lookin woman.
Then there was Luke's teenage sister Hassie played by Lydia Reed.

Remember Little Luke? He was actually supposed to be Luke's little brother. The reason for the double name was that when the little guy was born his parents were so excited that they forgot all about Luke. lol

Walter Brennen, one of my most favorite actors. 'No brag, just fact', was from 'The Guns of Will Sonnet'. I wish they would do re-runs.

When I was in the Naval reserve, we were required, annually, to serve active duty aboard ship for 2 weeks. My last cruise (1961) was aboard the Destroyer USS Maddox. (later Gulf of Tonkin incident) The skipper of the ship was Walter Brennen's son in law, an avid sportsman.

On the first day out at sea, on a balmy sunny afternoon, I started hearing these loud popping sounds coming from the bridge. So I had to ask someone what all the noise was about, and was told that it was the skipper shooting at flying fish from the bridge with his M-1 rifle.

I don't remember his name, but he was your typical Naval career officer, all Navy, and super squared away. We enjoy our freedom today because of guys like that. One of many.

Best regards

The Guns of Will Sonnett did air on most, if not all, and still airs on some ME-TV stations:

If you have access to a Me-TV station and it isn't currently airing in your area, it probably will be shown again in the future.
There was also a DVD release that used poor source material a few years back, too.

The Real McCoys currently airs on many, if not all Cozi TV stations:

I only have 'dish satellite' and don't recall any of those channels listed in their line-up. I do have the westerns channel on encore. Hopefully some day they will start showing them there.
