OT Basement

Couple shots of floor. Thank god, no more shoveling.

Looks to me like you might have installed some radiant heat. Good for you, it is the most efficient heat available, and the most comfortable as well.

What an accomplishment! I have been following your project with interest. How many square feet is your basement?

Whats funny, someday way off in the future, someone else may never know what you went through to accomplish this ! Well, unless you leave some photos behind, lot of hard work, but with good results !

52 X 24? That IS a heap of shovelin'! Nice job, that you can be proud of. And somebody else had a good idea- print up some pics of the whole process, from start to finish, with dates, put them in an envelope, and leave them in the basement for the next owners to find. Those jobs don't just magically get done by the "basement fairy" while you're watching TV upstairs.

how far below the slab is groundwater? or is the sump pump for water infiltration thru the walls?
Nice looking job!

Looks good Bryan.
I can tell you have different building codes than we do.
Does your floor drain run to the sump pit or the lift pump pit?
We used to be able to run them to a sump pit but 20+ years ago that changed. They have to drain to the lift pump pit here. We also have to vent floor drains now.
Also, our sump pits have to extend above the floor so if there is water on the floor it can't run into the sump pit!

When I first heard those rules I asked the inspector what the reason was. With a straight face he said "if your dog peed on the floor you wouldn't want that to run down the floor drain into the sump pit, or run directly to the sump pit because it would be pumped out onto your lawn." I asked how that was any different that me letting my dog outside to pee in the grass? He just stood there not knowing how to answer my question.

We have to use 3 1/2" or bigger posts, and we can't pour around them. We have to have a steel plate welded on the bottom and bolt that to the floor. Looks like you might have adjustable posts. We can't use those either.

What are your plans for the basement?

Thanks . Two bedrooms, bathroom, open area for bar etc . One
room for my reloading bench and gun safes. They manhandled
a power trowel down there. Did great job on finish. Used " Form
a Drain" for footings. Its tied into sump pit. After solid week of
rain I had about an inch of water in pit. The sump pit cover
sticks up above floor a little. Wasn't required to have one but
thought foolish not to. Also did 20 x 8 inch footing . 16 x 8 was
code. Pretty happy to be at this point. Roughly four years
working on it. Got burned out few times and took few breaks
from it. Thanks for all the great advice and encouragement
from everyone one here. There will be a party and your all
invited!

I thought when I saw the first post "boy he does not know what he is getting into" Well the end results sure look good. I know it was a lot of hard work. Looks good and I am sure you will enjoy it. I looked at those footer drain tile when I build my new house but could not find anyone who had used them. Looked pretty slick to me but I ended up going the conventional way.

Please, please put together a slide or video show of the whole process! It would be awsome

Agree, missed the earlier posts! Nice job.

I went back and looked at all the post you made from the beginning. All I can say is wow! I would have given in about half way through and hired the rest to be finished.

I saw you decided to build a little hopper on your conveyor for feeding it with the skidsteer (I design conveyors for a living). Nice job and lots of work. Now you are half finished.
