Huskee lawn mower with a Kohler 19 hp twin cam single cyl
engine sat a year in dry garage. Drained the gas tank, gave it
fresh gas and it won't start. Put a little gas in the air cleaner
throat and it will run about three seconds and quit quick. Did
this about ten times, run the few seconds and quit. any ideas?

Does that have a vacuum fuel pump with a diaphragm under the carb like a Briggs does? If so,that diaphragm might be bad.

ethanol has screwed the fuel line. Disconnect it from the fuel pump and turn it over . See if you have fuel flow.

I keep saying folks. Hi-test gas with a dash of Startron. Two year old gas in a mower up at my folks and it started right up! Love the stuff.

My lawn mower did the same thing. Call my mechanic and he said sound like fuel pump. I took it apart and some gunk in the like vasoline. Cleaned it and it still would not start. Loaded it and took it to my mechanic. The carb was in bad shape with the gunk. He told me to quit putting the 10% stuff in there. My fuel man must of slipped some 10% in my fuel barrel.

Got tired of messing with fuel problems on "occasional use" engines. Have bought NEW mower, weedeater, and engine for my small backhoe and used ONLY ethanol free for about 18mos. in each of them. Absolutely no problems, even with several month shutdown during winter (with fuel in tanks). As I clean up older eqipment, I also switch and get much better performance (they actually start and run), once etha-crap damage is purged.
