Back when I was at Alfred in the early 1980's there was an AC-NH dealer in Wellsville. There was an AC-NI-Hesston dealer in Fillmore along with a Ford-NH dealer. White and Badger dealer in Almond. Case-NH in Hornell. The school farm had IH tractors from IH dealers in Belfast and Dansville.

A little further out there was Ford-NH in Woodhull (Southern Steuben County), JD in Kanona (Bath), AC-Hesston in North Cohocton. There was a short lived JD dealer in Warsaw, IH in Perry and Avon.

Keep in mind this was during the early 1980's. There no doubt were other dealers going before my time down there but went by the wayside. I know somebody mentioned a JD dealer in Canisteo but I think that was during the 1960's.
 
The JD dealer in Canisteo was shut down by Mother Deere about 2 years ago as it was too small for JD..now it is a Massey dealer...
 
You are thinking of the one in Canaseraga. I kind of avoided bringing that one up because there seems to be a lot a controversy around it and there seems to be other issues that predate it. Without really knowing the story in full I just wanted to avoid mentioning them.
 
That's great info, never knew there was a dealer in almond, where was it? There are a lot of papec unloading wagons around and I have two myself, where were the dealers for them? I didnt know perry had a ih dealer just AC. I think they were running the same old ih tractors when i was there 20 years later at Alfred. By the time i got there the facilities just consisted of the dairy barn, heifer barn and a small pole barn for a few beef cows. The hog barns, butchering part of the barn and all the others were closed up and just sitting there. I went there last year and you wouldnt recognise the place. The house is gone and new complex has been built. The dealer in canaseraga is hard to deal with, it depends on who you talk to there. With being from so far away how did you come across all of them? Road trips during college or did you come this way later in life?
 
Papec was made in Shortsville in the Finger Lakes region (Ontario County) so it probably was more about supporting an area product. As far as who the dealers were I really do not know as Papec went out of business in the late 1970's.

The White dealer was on Route 21 and I think they had a hardware business, too. I don't remember the exact address I would have to drive to it to point it out.

Most of the dealers down there I learned by driving by to or from home. The rest was just talking to the ag guys about where they are from and so forth.

I think the golden age of the school farm was about the time I was there in terms of money spent but it sounds like they have done some stuff recently. It's been a few years since I have been by there.
