jersey calves

Super h mike is right, also, one large bag of replacer, not the
smaller bags of replacer at TSC type stores should last you
four weeks or so until the calf is weined. Buy the medicated
replacer if you can.

2 qts. warm water, plastic cup that comes with the replacer full of the powder, twice a day. feedings should be 12 hours apart, or close as you can to that. They might not drink all of it for the first days, but should be drinking it all before very long. Alot of guys only feed one big bag of replacer. I like to feed them a little longer than that. They should be eating grain pretty good (atleast a pound or 2) when you take them off of the replacer. My 2 cents.

If you feed them too much they get the yellow runs! Not very pretty. A neighbor was trying to raise veal and damn near had one drown when it barfed up and got some in it's lungs.

that's why I asked cause I have feed as the instructions on the bag say and have overfeed I guess. I am only feeding 3/4 quart 2 times a day.

Calves don't do as good on milk replacer as they do on their natural mothers milk. If you don't feed them enough, then your only adding to this problem. There are ways of dealing with scours other than putting them on a starvation diet so to speak. Mixing the recomended amount of powder in a lesser amount of water is not a good idea. That only makes it richer, and to rich can cause scour problems in itself. My 2 cents.

Dont forget to look at tag not all milk replacer is milk some
are just junk its alright if calves are older but not young
jerseys they can be touchy . best way is watch the back end
extra water doesnt hurt as much as extra powder .provide
clean fresh grain and water. huge difference where you get
calves calves from barn cows are harder to start grazed
cows calves will start grazing in days (there my
lawnmowers).
