Do I need to have the snap ring on the power steering cylind er im having trouble getting it on so if I don't need it on there I'm leave it off and try again sometime its a case 530 thank you

Unless it's different from anything I've ever seen, the snap ring holds things together, or at least it holds SOMETHING in place. Yep, I would make a SWAG and say that you do need it.

I'm not exactly sure if it just holds it on there or holds it together when its work here a link to an exploded view

Well, Nick, I looked at the exploded view. Kinda hard to really figure it out. but since it calls it a piston retainer snap ring, I would say that it keeps the piston from coming all the way out of the bore when it reaches end of travel. I have never seen one made like that, but that is why you have to work the snap ring in place after the piston is inserted into the bore. Tricky, I know, but it just takes perseverance. I don't know how many times I have had to lay something down and just walk away for a while, drink a cup of coffee,or something and then go back to it. If you get frustrated and keep on trying, chances are you will just get more frustrated, or even ------ off and that's when I tend to throw things so I just have to cool off for a few minutes. But,seriously, if you follow the step as outlined to install the ring, the main part is rotating the piston while doing so, it should work. You may want to post your question on the Case forum. Some of those people may know an easier way. Good luck.

I have a srewdriver about three sixteenths wide and heated it enough to bend a 60 degree bend about a half inch up on it. A small shaft one if you will, and use it like a tire tool to put the snap ring on. Get someone to turn rod for you. They are made to stand the cyl up and lay snap ring in the bottom center and tap the rod down and snap ring will go over the rod and lock in but wont work on all of them. Is a real pain. John Deere uses them on some models. Not what I call user friendly at all.

you must use the snap ring as gawd intended , lol ,place the snap ring in the valley of the ram and install in the barrel ,, then workin thru line hole, with screwdiver push it into home position ,, ,, 812 596-4605,,,

Thanks everyone I'm going to try again when i get home home I looked at the exploded view again and it said put the snap ring back n the place on the ram then put it together and then walk its back with a screwdriver
