Alright, I Am Going For It!!

Well, I sent that guy with the JD A an e-mail about it... Told him what I had to trade and that I was interested in it...

If YOU were going to buy it, what would be a reasonable price? I personally think $1100 is a little high, but that is North ID!!

Runs when it wants to
Smokes a little out of 1 cyl
OK sheet metal
Normal narrow front
Nice tires
Cast rear wheels
No Power Trol or any kind of hydro.
Hand start

I was personally thinking somewhere around the $800 range, but I am curious to see what you guys say!

I can re-post the pictures if needed!

Yep I agree somewhere a little above scrap price..but some guys would rather see it rust away and seize up in there yard than drop a hundred dollars and go to someone who will appreciate it and restore it..

Alright, good to know!

I offered him a complete field ready Ford 501 mower. It works great and is ready to go, with a 6ft bar. I figured that would be worth $700???

And a Ferguson 3 x 14 3 point plow. It needs some work, 2 of the moldboards have been broken off out towards the outer edge, however they HAVE been welded back on, but need to be ground smooth. It DOES have 3 coulters, but one is a little shady! I thought maybe $350-400? I see nice ones sell for $700 all the time on our local CL??

How am I on my prices?? I would like to think that the mower is worth a little more than I listed it for, but unfortunately I know that is probably not the case.... Bryce

Here the 501 would be worth about 350 and the plow whatever scrap would bring.

I think you are a little high on what you want for your mower and a little low on what you think his tractor is worth. 6' sickle bar mowers arn't worth much over scrap price no matter how nice they are unless you can find that one person who really wants one for mowing thier roadsides or fence rows. I wouldnt trade if I were him but hopefully he will. If he does trade I would worry what he knows about the tractor he isn't telling you.

There is nothing that ticks me off more than people stoping and wanting to buy stuff for scrap price. I would be one of those guys that will let thier stuff rot in the ground before I let the vultures come in and insult me. The great ones are the ones that think because you haven't moved something in a while you should sell it to them because they would use it. Then they only want to give you scrap price for something that runs good with good tires and they think they are doing you a favor by taking it off your hands.

Doesn't matter whether we think its a good trade what matters is what HE thinks about it.Run it by him and see you might have to throw in a little
$$ to make the deal.Personally I wouldn't want a 501 mower or any other Pitman stick mower or that old Deere.

The whole thing wrong with that is a lot of people have stuff sitting around they never thought of getting rid of. And the only way a guy is going to know is to ask. I, myself never make an offer but ask if it's for sale and if so what kind of price. If I think the price is way out there I just walk away. If it's more in the ball park where I think it should be at then I can make a counter offer.

Frankly, I think your over-valuing your stuff and under-valuing his tractor.

Perfectly natural thing to do, but you need to have a more realistic number in your head and be willing to meet in the middle.

Not really, "he dosent use it so I dont know why he won't sell it" does. I can find a buyer anytime and there's a scrap yard just up the road open 7 days a week if I only want scrap price.

I agree...sickle mowers aren't moving as fast as you think, and welded up plows are worse. Of course there are a few people out there that don't know what they want or what they need or what things are worth that will buy anything....city people buy 5 acres and suddenly become starry eyed for equipment and believe anything a seller will tell them LOL! Most don't even know what the proper name for the equipment is...
