milk vacuum pumps

I picked up this pump from an old barn that was going to be torn down. Now I have a friend milking some goats and I'm wondering if there is any way that it can still be used for milking? Its missing the clamp that holds the can under the pump neck and I have no idea where to start looking for one of those. Any idea what model it would be?

There is no clamp. We used a shim of wood, (wood shingle?) to keep the can from dropping. Check it once a week and empty any condensation. Make sure there is oil in the sump.

Hi years ago, we had one like that. I believe my Dad had it installed new in 1945. Just start the pump and hold the canister up to the bottom of pump and the vacuum will hold the canister on. There should be a rubber gasket on top of the canister. More important is the vacuum regulator valve to adjust the vacuum.

If you want to milk you can use your tractor we had a 300 utility and put a stall cock on the vacuum side of the carb.
Sounds wierd but when the power was off it could run 2 units lots better then hand milking

Thanks for all the info. We never did any milking of cows (or bulls lol) so I don't know a thing about it.

Hi, it was a large pail probably held 10 gal of milk and lid had one pulsator and milked two cows at once. It was very heavy to carry if you had two good milking cows. It was good if all cows milked at the same rate. Late 1950s changed to 3 Surge pails.
Much lighter to carry and didn't have to pair cows by milking times.

On a still winter night we could hear our neighbor's pump 2 miles away. We had one, lost it when the barn burned in 1955.
