Totally OT House Radiators.

I ran out of heating oil due to a faulty fuel guage. We had 4 cast iron radiators break. There may be a few guys on this board with hot water heating experience.I need to know if I can replace cast radiators with another style. We tried new baseboard radiators but they don't seem to put out heat at the temperature used by cast radiators. With cast radiators the boiler should run about 160 degrees.I am told newer radiators need 190 but fuel consumption goes way up.I am thinking about the style that were used in offices and such that went from floor to window sills and were used in the 60's alot.If anybody has any ideas about what would work in place of cast radiators I would appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Wander over to heating help dot com and look for the find a professional section.

If it work before and now does not then the repair was not done correctly.

Where are you located? In the Minneapolis area we have demo/dealers that sell used radiators for new burnham still makes theirs because of freight you would need to be close to that plant or close to a stocking distributor

Edr or equivalent direction radiation is how they are sized I would need to know the height and number of sections and how many fins or looking from the side how many spacing do you see if you want to replace with standard radiation

Your problem might be the new baseboard units are too small.
If you take out a 4' wide by 3' tall radiator you can't replace it with a 4' baseboard unit.

Check with industrial wreckers. Our church just switched to forced air, got rid of maybe a dozen or more cast radiators. The parochial school is coming down within the year, and has similar units. Gotta be a market for them, beyond scrap value. In MPLS area, Borchardt and Sons in New Germany is a major salvage yard for industrial equipment of all types.

I'm in southern NY and have a truckload of cast iron radiators I've taken out of houses, steam and hot water. Don't know if you want or need to drive this far to get one though. Good luck
