way back.. copper-top neighbor kid with tractor..

All,

Many moons ago, I wrote of the red-headed kid that lives nearby.

So today, I get home, and I see a young fellow, and a tractor near my shed. Turns out he's trying to say hello, but, I'm a tad late getting home.

After offering a Coke from my garage fridge, he's trying to get underway. Tractor was unwilling. We hook up the charger, but still no go. I get the car, jumpers, ether (just a wisp), but still ended up with the fellow and tractor in my yard.

Forward a few moments, and we get the tractor running.

Spark plugs deeply fouled, but nudged him to wire-brush them then give a touch of heat from the torch.

He's all-around a good kid, but I try to encourage him to be better. He's got some learning to do, but don't we all?

Just letting a gray whisker or two of mine show, if he was my kid...well, I may have been less tolerant.

It's amazing how far I've gotten in the soft-hearted territory.

Dennis, I was wondering how thing were going with the kid. I read your posts about him and think you are doing something great spending time with him. When he grows up he will have good memory's of the time you spent together and the things you have taught him. I hope he can some day pass on the things to some other kid. David

so true ,,, Ernie lived on the farm below us ,,he mechaniced 20 yrs at a case dealer .... he was always showing my brothers and I trix to the trade for repairs and what not ,,,great welder and teacher too ,, with a wonderful sense of humor ...
He was a 18 yr. old paratrooper into France and spent winter time 1944 in a tunnel under the Seine river as POW ,But , he never wanted to talk about it ,,I cried when he died of cancer some 30 yrs ago,,, he still was a young fellow and kid at heart , and one of Pops best pals , and although not related, Ernie was like a good uncle to us...

Bless You for what you are doing for that young fellow. There are so many missing fathers in this world Thank you for standing in the gap for his.
Ron

Sounds like a grandfather type of thing to me.
Or perhaps a teacher not a preacher moment.
Both are good

Keep paying it forward. It will dividends to both. Nothing wrong with being human. He is fortunate and grateful to have you in his life. Unfortunate his family is missing out.
Be blessed my friend you are making a difference in his life and one day he may do the same.
