I was playing around on Amazon last night when I got the idea that I should probably replace the fuel line on my parents Mantis again. I looked it up, and sure enough there it is, for $5 or $9. A new air filter is another $5, and the carb for under $40. This thing has always been touchy and I've cleaned the carb several times, but it just never seems to run right for more than a week or 2 and then it'll run poorly again.

I decided to pul the trigger and order it all. Last year it never got used at all, and the year before I got it ready to go in March with a new fuel filter, fuel line, cleaned the carb, etc... and by the time we needed it in April/May, it ran like crap again.

So, whenever it gets here, I'll have to tear into that now too....

Probably worth the extra $40 to save the frustration.
Providing it works well of course.
Hang on to the old one just in case.
Good deal helping your folks out too.

Use good non-ethanol gas and good oil, run it at least every 6 months, you shouldn't have any problems. I have my dad's 30 year old Stihl brush cutter/weed eater and it has never been worked on. It gets used occasionally during the summer and I put some Sea-foam in the first tank. My chain saws (Jonsered) I seem to have to put a kit in the carburetor every 20 years.
 
We went with the Honda mini tiller for those little jobs and it has run great since new (3-4 years ago) on just regular gas. Price was pretty close on both units.
 
Mõm still has one of the older ones with an echo engine
and that has been one of the best 2 cycle engines we ever
had.
 
We do run premium in it and all that jazz.b just doesn't make any difference with it. It's been finicky ever since they got it. It is one with an echo engine.
