Yamaha Golf Car Update

I took time to check out the golf car tonite.I was wrong, it wasn't idleing, it was the starter turning it over. All the linkage works as it should. After messing with it for a while, I checked the spark, nice brite arc. Then I took the gas line off of the carb and turned it over, no gas. Did some more checking and decided the electric fuel pump isn't working. Got it off and will get another one after work tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks, Chris

Chris,
That's why I asked the question the way I did. Same problem with mine one time, the generator was still running and hadn't kicked out, makes you think the gas engine is running.

Nice thing, the Yamahas are pretty easy to work on for the most part.

You say it has an ELECTRIC fuel pump??? Sure of that??? Many (like my Yamaha) just have a vacuum diaphram operated pulse type pump (like lawn tractors use) that operate by changing crankcase pressure as the piston goes up n down. It has 3 rubber lines, one is intake from gas tank,,,,,,,,,,other is output to carb,,,,,,,,,,,other is small vacuum line to engines crankcase.........

1) Those vacuum pulse type pumps (same as small lawn tractors use) have been known to fail but FIRST insure all 3 of those lines are good with no cracks or leaks

2) On many Ive owned if they set a long time and the carb bowl runs dry the pump system looses prime AND IT WILL NOT PUMP FUEL UNITL YOU PRIME THE SYSTEM. I remove the line from the tank and fill it with gas and then she will prime up and pump fine.

3) Is there a fuel filter from tank to the pump?? or pump to carb??? Be sure its not clogged up and/or change it.

Check the 3 pump lines,,,,,,,,check fuel filter,,,,,,,,,fill gas line with gas n see if she primes n pumps,,,,,,,,,

Remove line at carb n turn her over n see if any gas is getting pumped into carb

IF IT DOES HAVE AN ELECTRIC PUMP??? Much of the above is still true, not hard to figure her out, check wiring and voltage and if pump is running and pumping.

If its pumping gas to carb okay but no fuel to engine, the carbs needle valve n seat may be stuck closed or gunked up

Again, sure its not a vacuum operated 3 line pulse type pump????? Even if they are decent shape they can loose prime and NOT pump until you fill the line with gas to prime it !!!!!!!!!!!

See if the spark plug is firing if its not a ags problem

Sometimes the hose going from the pump to the block, (the one that does the work) gets clogged with goop and can't create the "pulse" that operates the pump. You can easily blow it back into the block to clear it. I have been stranded many times with your symptoms and have had it cleared by doing this.
