Horses are living much longer now due to better medical care and advanced feeds for older horses. I put down my beloved American Saddlebred about 5 years ago at age 36. She was the best riding horse I have ever owned. She was every bit a Lady in her temperament (good and bad)and extremely friendly, putting her muzzle on my shoulder when she wanted attention. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done to put her down, but she was wasting away and had no quality of life towards the end. God Speed, Mindy!!

My old neighbour near where I moved from, had a paint horse that they put down, they claimed it was 41. It was sway backed and looked old! Broke her heart to say good bye!

I got a horse over 20. He is holding up pretty good and not showing much age. Grand parents had one that lived to be mid-30's. Alot has to do with maintaining their teeth, and not having other health problems. IMO, letting your horse graze and not feeding them hay year round saves on their teeth. That T.V. guy said one lived to be 62 in history. That is truely amazing. Never heard of any even getting close to that.
