Yup, I moved my calving back a few weeks this year because of pneumonia trouble in the past couple of year. It's raining like the devil yesterday and I go down to feed. Lo and behold, here's one cow with a calf just about out. Little guy was up quick and nursing, but due to some work on the barn, I couldn't put them in. And then, it starts to snow last night. Kind of figgered I'd have a dead calf this morning, but he's up like the rest of them and doing fine. It still amazes me how tough they actually are when they're born in cold weather....

2"-3" here, water outside was slush on top at 9PM or so. Sun should make short work of the snow removal, given its mid april, sure could have been worse, that darned wind was blowing hard for 3 days, it toppled a 2/3 of a cord single firewood stack of pine that I use for kindling, tarp must have acted like a sail, I re-stacked without the tarp, braced the opposite side, funny how the wind just slowly eroded the stack, some came off the top,not all, and the wind kept making the stack lean till the rest went over, it even blew pieces from the top. Don't recall having strong winds from the same direction, 3 days in a row, definitely an odd one.

Once they get that first shot of colostrum, and the mama lick-off, it takes some really tough weather to get them down.
