Back to tractors...WFE question

Should front wheels on a wide front be spaced to the center of the rears or to the outside width of the rears? Or does it not matter?

Center may be right but I like mine inside the rear tire. The extra room is good on turns and the plow is easier to set if the tractor is strait in the furrow.

They are adjustable in order to facilitate the particular job. Or, if the tractor is no longer a worker, but instead a shower, it is whatever looks best to the owner.

I remember around here when wheels were carefully set with the inside distance the same front and rear, for plowing, as WGW mentions. Over time the inside edge of the front tire would be scarred up from rubbing the furrow wall!

On tractors used for row crop work they were centered up.

On front wheel assist tractors its better to set them to the outside of the rear tires, that way you can set your stops for turning shorter and turn around better. chris

I prefer to have the outside of the tires line up, easy to see that when on rows and know back tire will fit.

If you are on flat land it may not matter. On contoured hills where you need to side-shift up hill a little I like the fronts centered to the rears. Whatever works for you will be the best way to go.
