Ice road trucker

Guess that's me today. Left Albert Lea Mn. on the
Ia. border on I-35 this mornin and went north. The
road was closed on the southbound side from 40
miles north of there to nearly Des Moines.
Minneapolis is a mess with trucks stuck on the ice.
Here are some pics out my window of the roads and
some of the trucks stopped blocking the road. The
pic of the trucks is the third place I came across
that just in Minneapolis area. I was able to drive
right by them every time tho.

Ice Road trucker, must be making BIG money today.HEHE Keep it between the lines, except I don't see no lines for ya to follow! Good Luck...John

They should know to stay off the roads when they are light or MT...
Never did have any trouble when loaded heavy.
BUT, I did carry a 10 lb bag of Rock Salt.
One handful under both sides and you will roll right out on Wet ice ( or break the trailer brakes loose)..
Be careful and watch out for the ones who tell you "You have to be GOOD to be out here"...
Those are the ones heading for a ride in the Comedian strip...!!

It will only be much worst when you get to the Cities, they are telling people to go back home, it got worse there than they thought it would, the whole loop turned into a parking lot up there.

I just went 10 miles on a county road, plowed off, but road is ice covered, rutted, and drifts are building back in. Was mostly 30mph and I was the only one on the road.

The state highway is still shut down, flashing lights so fine to drive it, but there are so many wrecks on it they aren't getting enough time to clear it and plow it.....

Going back to the deep freeze now, so the ice is going to hang on I bet.

That's about how it looks here today. I just had to go to town and try to get the boy's pickup started. Danged blasted Chevrolet must be wet. Sounds like the spark is jumping and it won't go.

Everything from wet pavement to hard pack between here and town. The whiteouts are so bad I couldn't see beyond the hood in places. I should be hauling manure since it finally broke loose in all the rain, but I'm afraid of getting rear ended on the road getting to the field.

I can remember coming out of a guy's farm in South Dakota one day with a big load of hay and got into a snow storm , some called a blizzard and there were times i could not see the grab handle on the hood . Took me 14 hours to run across Iowa across Rt two or was it three have to look at the atlas . I really wanted to cut down I 35 , but it was snowing so hard that i never saw the sign for I35 and never realized that i had gone over top of it . The only thing that i did know was not to stop and as far as seeing the road that i had never been on before i was just guessing as to where the road really was. Power divider locked in axle loc locked in wipers running as hard as they could mirror heat on defrost on high and sixth gear . When i finally did see a sign it said Charles City that way and Waverly the other. Well i know Waverly and that is south yep i am headed that way, Finally got onto 80 and i made two more exits east and i was way past played out , Made it into some tiny little rat hole truck stop bored me a hole and packed the snow under me a bit and died . My time on the road i never missed out on a major snow storm i was always in the middle of one .

Yeah, You poor truckers.
Tough on you guys today.
I heard on the radio that 35W was blocked north of Downtown Mpls due to trucks blocking the road.
So I took I 94 West through the Lowrey tunnel to get home roundabout way. There is a very slight incline going in and coming out of the tunnel and 3 or 4 semis stalled - spinning their wheels, completely helpless on each end. I spent a 20 minutes sitting in the tunnel waiting to get through. Spooky to be trapped in there.

I got her autograph, her manager is from the town next to me and so she has done a truck dealership opening and an appearance at a local skating show here. She is what she appeared on the show, just a down to earth gal from the 3 minutes brush with fame. ;)

Well, there are times when common sense says stop and NOT tie the road up, when other loaded trucks can get on down the road..
One to two mph too much only gets you in trouble..

I used to average 2,000 mi of ice and snow every week in the Winter months, NEVER shut it down if the road was open and NEVER put a mark on one..

Sure, I was lucky plenty times, but arent we all..!!

I can't believe you get around as good as you do with only one drive axle, the old grain trucks we had years ago with tag axles were worthless even on dry ground.
