Fixed wires on Briggs

Thanks to everyone who gave advise on re-wiring the riding mower I bought. I got it wired today. I haven't bothered with headlights yet. They might have been wired to the AC wire from the Briggs engine which would make the on when the engine is running. Or, they could be battery run through the switch but if so they were on whenever the key is in the run position. This key has 3 positions. Off grounds the mag. Start connects battery to activate solenoid. On connects battery power to L (lights?) terminal. I confirmed this engine has a DC and an AC wire coming from the alternator.

I wired the brake and blade safety switches in series in the wire to the solenoid so it will not start with blades in gear or brake not pressed. I didn't bother with the seat one--always disable that anyway.

Glad you got it straigented out. I hate those safety's, on my lazer z I jumped all 3 the seat, parking brake, and blades. When you mow all day, it's a pain to shut the blades off lock the break ect, just to pick up a stick. I wouldent recommend everyone do that, just my preference.

I heard of a guy who bypassed all those safetys on a Zero Turn.
He cranked it up in his shop not noticing that one of the control handles was in full forward. They said it was doing high speed donuts in his shop before some brave soul jerked the spark plug wires off.

Those safetys are on there for a reason!

I am not going to say your wrong in doing that , Just don t let anyone else operate the Rider as you could be liable for a large lawsuit if some one got hurt .

All I disable is the seat switch. It isn't a problem for me to put my foot on the brake and have the blades disengaged to start it. I don't like it trying to shut off when I move my butt on a hill or hit a bump while cutting. Yea, sometimes I get off with the blades running. Sometimes I move it forward while standing beside it. I've let it creep forward towing the trailer vac while walking beside the vac holding the hose vacuuming up a large pile of leaves. Sometimes to clean the bagger chute I stick my hand down it pulling out packed leaves with the mowing deck running but my hand is no were close to reaching the blades. Usually removing just a few and it'll blow the rest out--if not I shut off the deck wait until the pulleys have stopped turning and stick my whole arm down it.

The best mower I have is an ooooooold Snapper rear engine before there were any safeties. The ditch in front of the farm is steep. I walk beside it on the hill and keep it from tipping over. I was so tired of waiting for the safety switches to die on the four year old Cub Cadet that I finally bypassed them. Only one I left was the parking brake set to start. I figure it's a good idea for the starter not to need to spin the hydro to fire it up.

I still have the safety switches working on my ZT mower. I can see a pro bypassing them, but not one with employees. A landscaper in the next town got hurt pretty bad in the pocket a couple years back when an employee got hurt due to a bypassed lock-out.
