Chicken houses collapse

Just heard that 2 broiler houses within 3 miles of here collapsed from the snow and sleet we had over the last 2 days. I was told one was full of chicks and was a total lose of over 20,000 birds. They were trying to save some of the birds from under the other one and get them into another house. We had a lot of sleet on top of the soft snow.

Ya out that way buildings are not built to take much of snow load and it does not take a lot of snow to add up fast to make it heavy enough to fall in. Back a couple years ago I think 2010 we had ice and snow and a good number of places fell in due to the 2 foot or so snow loads

Sure sorry to hear about that.
Some of the chicken houses that have been built over the past several years were put together with the barest of structural integrity. Build 'em fast, build 'em cheap and max out the profit. Makes sense til something like that happens.

A friend just drove by one and said it looked like a flattened V. Little chicks have to be kept very warm. Probably didn't last an hour.
