Got my January electric bill today

Mine was about double too, but no where near yours!
We had trouble getting a propane truck down the road when we
were running low, so we used electric heaters to preserve what
we had left. Bit pretty hard on the bill!

Yes toolman we do have the so called "smart meter". The smart part is they bill you every month to use the meter, how do you like that? Our power supply is central meter, so house and barn on the same bill. But we do not do much different in the barn in the winter, than in summer, just a little heater in the milk tank room. Ithink the price has floated up to match our falling dollar value.

(quoted from post at 17:57:16 02/10/14) And the bill was almost double the month before. For January..$2047.00. Seems I might have to go Amish if prices keep going up like this!!

HOLY COW!! I will stop complaining about my $140 electric bill now...

Bruce; do you get Better Farming magazine? Article in the last issue about how our Provincial Utility is doing us a diservice.
Note that the off-peak rates that the Smart Meter tracks have increased signifigantly

Bruce, did you compare your usage to last year's? I too thought ours was high until I compared it to last year's at this time..........almost doubly usage over last year's!!! Our bill shows last month and last years totals on a graph.

Ditto with my bill but I know why. Last winter it was MUCH warmer and my super high efficient gas furnass is not too bad on the gas bill but the BLOWER is on almost all of the time. This year with the furnass running and this cold weather; well... moving around all of that air takes a lot of zap.

last year mine was 46 watts at 5.78 a day this year 111 watts at 12.65 during the summer about 80 bucks a month this month with wood heat and electric plus 3 cattle waters 400 ouch. any pennys for the poor hope it warms up soon

My bill was $382 but that was everything(Water, gas, electricity, sewer & garbage) but it was $120 more than last months bill.

The price of power is up. I forget how they do it, I think the price for the electricity itself needs approval from some gov't authority to raise it, but the "delivery charge" isn't like that. All I know is mine was almost double the norm.

We have an electric water heater, and clothes dryer. Gas heat but have an electric heater in the family room that runs about 20 hours a day. Our January electric bill was $127 which was about $40 higher than normal for this time of year.

All electric with wood furnace and the bill was $104 (with part-time space heater when the baby was here and one watering tank heater). It's a real job keeping ahead of the wood furnace though.
