Just returned home from a trap team meeting. The Winneconne High School is starting a trap team and there was a big turnout of kids and parents. Anyone else have trap teams in their high schools?. Jim

I was told (haven't confirmed) that West Prairie CUSD103 (Sciota, IL) now has a trap team. I know they have a bass fishing team. My younger son is upset there wasn't a team when he was there. Both sons are upset the fishing team didn't exist either.

In '61 & '62 I was on the trap team at CUSD 185 (Macomb). The problem was there were no other HS teams anywhere else in the area.

They're a fairly common event here in Nebraska with state shoot-offs, etc., although not all schools participate.

At the height of PC stupidity, the Malcolm, NE high school was going to suspend a student for having a shotgun in the trunk of his car while on his way to trap practice. No wonder our schools are in trouble.

There are about 18 schools involved in our area and still growing. The boys are excited to get started. Jim

My grand daughter is in college now, but she was on the high school trap team, and they were good. A bunch of rural kids who grew up around guns. I recommend it!! You notice our school sign has a Pioneer packing a rifle, ha!

The Catholic HS my boy goes to right across the state line in OH has a very good team. He's on it and it has been the best experience. Great kids and parents/coaches.
I think its great.

Look like a pretty cocky bunch. Maybe they need some sporting clays to humble them some.....

Son was on the HS rifle team in the late '90's- I think they still have it. I think there were only one or two other schools in the area with teams, so they didn't get to compete much except against each other.

He was always a good shot- he used to sit in a lawn chair and knock a pop can all over the yard with his BB gun. The BBs would penetrate one side of the can, but stay inside- so he'd put tape over the mouth of the can, and then re-use the BBs.

I was on the trap team for 2 years first year they had it the novice team got second at state the second year they had it the junior varsity got third and the varsity got second luckily for me i was on the novice the first year and varsity the second there was about 30 shooters

This has me a bit confused. A friend of mine's son joined the school target rifle team (in CT no less. Later quit because he was bored) but; How does this work? I thought that, in these "Zero tolerance extremest" days, just "talking" about a gun in school was enough to get a student expelled or arrested.
