while you have head off, look real close for contact between piston dome/head, result of head being milled too many times. chk wrist pins--good luck

Knocks that happen in deceleration, or speed changes, are often wrist pin related. Even .001" can make serious noise. The clearanc is usually near zero to .0005". jim

ince you mentioned cam........under power the cam is driven toward the rear by gear pattern, but when coasting, it is driven forward & if the gap between button on front of cam & timing cover is too large, you may hear the two bouncing against one another, especially at low speeds.

Just leaving a lock washer off the distributator can make a knock. Have one tore down now and that was the reason. Might have been a too long a bolt tho.
