Question about old 4wd wheel loaders

Looking at an old trojan 124.

Two questions:

1 Is it a good machine?

2 On old All wheel drive non articulated wheel loaders is there an inter axle diff lock or some sort of lockup clutch if one axle is spinning and it goes to 4wd?

Don't know about a Trojan, but my brother used a pair of old Michigan loaders around his sawmill for many years and was happy with them. Maybe didn't turn as short as articulated ones but worked fine.

Can not say on that machine but most I used in the past both axles works independent of each other so if the back axle had a wheel spin but the front did not the front would keep pulling. Had an old Hough pay loader that was a monster that was that way.

Some were two wheel drive with the ''M'' engine and frame and some were planetary drive 4WD, all of the 4WD I ever saw were converted to pulpwood pre-haulers by a company in Pine Bluff Arkansas in the 60's but were originally manufactured in Batavia New York. They were tough machines and had a high lift capacity for their era.

I also am unfamiliar with a Trojan, but my similar non-articulated vintage Cat was the answer to my dreams. My axles are independent, but no differential lock on either. I choose 2 or AWD, which is how mine is always operated on my mountain.

Turning radius is not small, but the tractor is more stable than an articulated one. I chose to give up small turning radius in exchange for staying shiny side up.
