2240 Injector Pump Leaking BAD

I have begun working on a 2240 John Deere. It runs really well, but the diesel is leaking from the top of the injector pump, from around the linkage pivots. Is this something I can replace (o-rings, gaskets, seals, etc.) without messing up the injector pump? I noticed all the wire "seals" on just about everything.

CAV pump??? Several posts in the archives about repairing these leaks. May have to go to the Massey forum to find them. Have one on a 2955 doing the same thing. One thing for SURE, don't try it until you read up on it.

I Had a 2640 doing that. I took it to a dealer and watched him. I think I could do it now. Just make sure timing marks are lined up before you pull it off. I wasn't there when he put it back together, but he left one set of the washers off of the lines, so I had to fix that while the pump was still of the tractor. Two washers per line.

Seals on throttle shaft & fuel control shaft can be renewed while pump is still attached to engine. One must be VERY CAREFUL to reattach everything under cover in exact location it was removed from.

Not hard to fix without removing the pump. The o-rings cost a little over a buck total from Deere. If you break the gasket - Deere # R520622 gets $5 for it.

I agree with JD. They are not hard to replace. Just be carefull when you pull the top off. I would go ahead and get the gasket. Might as well change it while you have it apart.

GREAT! Thanks for all the great info and diagrams. I will get with the JD parts house tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

THAT video is GREAT! Thanks! That will make it much easier. Just gotta stay clean and organized with the project. I'll let ya know how it goes!
