I have a close friend that will manage a new Box Store. They have already hired many employees and plan to open within the next few days.
Anyway, he told me that they were having a problem with employee THEFT?? He stated that he called all employees together and asked if any were aware of the thefts and nearly all raised their hands.
I don't know what he is going to do, but many are on video!!
Absolutely unbelievable!!!

And the strange thing so many dont realize
what the are doing.for example they wont
miss it they will just write it of . or my favorite
the guys that show up but dont work i wonder
how they would feel if a mechanic went to
work on there car and then just stood there.
and at the end of the day the same guys
wonder why they dont get more pay?

The large retailers have brought this behavior on themselves by refusing to allow employees to stop somebody that they see stealing. They don't want a confrontation, just let them go,security will handle it. But security doesn't handle it.

I don"t know if its all over the country; But I work in an Assembly Plant with about 1100 employees. There are probably about 20 - 30 people who sell illegally copied Music CD"s, & Movie DVD"s. Every person who sells, & or buys just 1... IS AN UNCONVICTED CRIMINAL! If You try to tell these people, They look at You with absolute disgust, or as if You have lost Your mind. I am considered the bad guy with a bad reputation because I wont buy from any of them. As I was the Felon!!! Even though they are guilty of...

1) Copyright Laws.
2) Income tax evasion.
3) Selling stolen goods.
4) Buying stolen goods.
5) Conversion: The act of selling items that don"t actually belong to You.
The list goes on.

Probably no less than half the employees there are involved. I blame the Federal Government for not doing something about this rampant problem. Once someone gets used to the idea, its a lot easier to steal from everybody!!! I did get one seller to stop. I told imagine that a new hire comes to work here, & He has a relative who say works for the FBI. He/She goes home, & says I cant believe whats going on in there. Then some months later the FBI walks out with 20, or 30 people in handcuffs. It might happen!

That is the fallacy behind libertarians, that believe we need no laws. There will be people that do the wrong thing.

It is a management problem and a social problem, and when the unemplyment rate is 8 or 9% is the time to fix it. A Management problem because Mgmt. did't set rules and make people live by them, and a social problem because once people get away with stealing, they decide it is a way of life and a fringe benefit.

When unemployemtn is 9%, it is the right time to fire the thieves, and let everyone know the rules. At 9% unemployment, there are a lot more butts where those came from. But hiring new staff is hard work...and too many managements won't face up to it.

It is much harder to fix when unemployment is 4% and qualified applicants are scarce.

I see it everyday, people playing with their I-phones while someone is paying them to work...it is stealing time that someone else is paying for.

"Time is Money"

Any large and decent organization has a loss prevention manager. My wife worked for a place in the mid 90s that had a person for this task. This guy was 6' 3" and full of muscle. He would escort employees out the door when they were caught stealing. (and prosecute at times) This big fella was a deterrent, not a be all end all. A good loss prevention manager looks at what is sold per day vs. what is not on the shelves. Employee theft can be reduced by letting them know that everything is on camera, all aisles, backrooms, parking lots.

The only problem with that is you still can't hire decent help with 9% unemployment. A person can draw $8 to $15 and hour (figuring a 40 hour work week) sitting at home on dole or they can WORK and get maybe the same wage. What do you think they are doing?

The socialist have destroyed the country.

Doesn't matter.

Good people will follow social mores with little or no governance. Bad people will do bad things no matter how hard you try to ride them.

I don't disagree about the socialists, but the 2002--2008 crooks on Wall Street did not do it any favors either.

We have 1000's of drug laws but have more drugs then ever, have 1000's of laws against stealing but more theft now than ever.Liberals (and Conservatives)think passing a law changes human nature and human character and the evidence shows they are dead wrong.

Nor did Barney Frank or Chris Dodd. You remember those two. They gave no money down mortgages which is what really sank the economy.

My nephew manages a large retail store. When he first got the manager position he let a handful of problem employees go. He's working hard at putting a stop to theft at his store including the theft of time by employees. When he made it clear that he had a zero tolerance for theft of any kind including employees not doing the work they were being paid to do a large number of employees quit. That just made his job easier as he was able to hire better employees.

I understand that a week or two ago, the stock market hit an all time high, at the end of...2013. Oddly enough, one of the persons that so critisizes wall street as he flies around the nation still community organizing, sends staffers out on the Sunday morning talk shows to point out from time to time how well wall street is doing as a measure of success for how well the economy is said to be doing. Personally, I don't understand how a person can blame wall street as he then points to its current success by choosing people as his nominated appointments to chief the fed reserve that then artificially pump up the market by printng money non-stop, 24x7. Hard for me to understand, but then I unsderstand that "bailouts" for the insurance companies built into the unaffordable care act of 2009, not 2000 - 2008 that are just around the corner, for the record. Was even a slight mention of it on tonight's world news, a slight mention that is just about to...explode. Bailouts for the insurance companies that are just about to be put out of business by design. By the way, printing money 24x7 won't have any affect on inflation, which won't have any affect on how far paychecks go whether they work at a big box store or big tractor company in East Moline, so I am to understand. Go figure.

May be the same Big Box, the one I worked for claim
40% of their losses are employee theft. They do not
pursue loss out the front door by customers. Just
go after employees that are stealing and you cut
your profit leak. But seems strange they wouldn't
even prosecute the ones that are caught for
shoplifting. According to upper management, they
don't want to offend their customers and can't
stand a lawsuit.
HUH!???

Back in the early 80's, w had a big gambling bust, the feds busted about 60 people in our plant. This place had about 12K workers. Some were in management, most were not. A lot of them got their birthday taken away.

I've been a conservative all my life. This video on Youtube: Home Ownership and President Bush 2002, surprised and shocked me. I did not recall that speech. It is either fact or the best job of photoshoping that I have ever seen. Lets place and force sharing of the blame appropriately.

And lets quit giving the culprits a free ride.

Regardless of the talkshow guys, videos are unforgiving.

Suze Orman talked about that several years ago--at the start of the Housing Crash.
Guess some people didn't notice???

I retired from a place that paid $20 an hour and they still stole from it..One guy got caught and they told him that if he returned everything they wouldnt fire him..When they saw the amount of stolen items that he returned they fired him.

Its your kind that have done in American society and mores in the name of something for nothing and so called security.

LOL!.....I was JUST thinking of that before I scrolled down. Yes it is 6 foot 4 and full of muscle. Good tune ...lol

"he just smiled and gave me a vegimite sandwitch" vegamite I have been told is used like peanut butter down under I have never seen it around here

(quoted from post at 14:13:14 01/14/14) That is the fallacy behind libertarians, that believe we need no laws. There will be people that do the wrong thing.

Where did you come up with that definition of a libertarian? What you describe is an anarchist, not a libertarian. The libertarian tends to support laws that punish those who harm other people rather than laws that enforce gov'ts wishes. IOW- theft should be illegal and punished whereas a marriage license shouldn't be required. One harms an individual, the other fills gov't coffers.

Well said Mark. Problem is 80% of the people out there either have no idea what you're talking about or support whats being done.

(quoted from post at 18:49:37 01/14/14) Maybe if they paid more then 50 cents an hour they wouldn't have that problem?

You know someplace in the US where people are only paid 50 cents an hour? Is that before or after paying their SS, Medical taxes, Workers Comp, etc and all the other state and federal taxes, etc.?

Okay Edd, I watched a couple of the You Tube recordings of that speech. You seem to be missing some of the key words he used, like "qualified borrowers", "borrowers with good credit history", things like that. You also seem to have ignored the warnings the same administration was putting out at the same time and later- http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news/releases/2008/10/20081009-10.html It's a lot more complicated than saying it's Bushs fault and ignoring Clintons contributions to the problem or Frank/Dodds and so many other pols played in this. I'm hardly Bushs biggest fan, but this blame game that ignores everyone but Bush has to end. It worked for external_link, but that was a looong time ago.

I am very fair about spreading the blame. Both sides let us down. Period.

and this applies to both sides.
No vision, no ethics, no understanding of human nature.

Both sides are too beholden to big contributors.

My Dad told of one day when leaving a P&G Technical Center security was searching people for stolen product. Around the corner from where the searches were going on was a lot of abandoned product. Technicians didn't carry briefcases, who do you suppose was planning on stealing all that soap and such?

The warehouse I worked at for a while had someone steal a bunch of Parker-Hannifin brass parts. Then he called in sick, and took it all to the scrap yard at once. Had his back seat and trunk stacked full of brass. All still in boxes with the company name and logo. At the scrap yard that was contracted with the company to haul off the parts they threw away for not passing quality, odd numbers, etc.

Some people are too smart for their own good.
