Weather channel

I just went through the Direct TV guide and saw that what they called The Weather Channel is gone. Same channel, but now it's Weather Nation. None of the weathertainment shows are listed anymore. Just straight up weather. I wonder if the agenda is gone too? I did a search to see if they'd been sold and couldn't find anything. Don't know if it's an actual improvement or if they just put lipstick on a pig.

I heard on the radio today that they were having a dispute over money and had dropped them accordingly. I don't have a TV so I don't know anything directly about it.

Weather channel was running adds the last few days saying they were going to be dropped and encouraging people to contact Direct TV asking them to keep it on there.

I have Dish Network and there have been commercials on the Weather Channel about DirecTV dropping the Weather Channel and how you should call and complain.....

I just checked mine, channel 362, yep same thing weather nation??? I don't know what happened to twc.

I hope they never resolve it. The programming that's on there now appears to be "THE WEATHER".

That is a good thing !
The weather channel should have WEATHER ! Not movies or entertainment !
Their is about 200 other channels if someone wants entertainment...
I hope Dish does the same !!!!

I think Direct TV wanted them to pay something like a penny a month per subscriber. Sounds trivial, but adds up, of course. Direct wouldn't come to terms with the Pac 12 network, either. And their DVR system is inferior to Dish. I've had Dish for years, and it just keeps getting better.

If anyone wants to jump ship to Dish, email me first- as a current subscriber, if I move you to Dish, we BOTH get $50. If you just sign up on your own, you get nothing. email me at mmittge at compprime dot com.

Sounded like they were paying 12 cents per subscriber, and WC wanted an extra penny. I presume both sides are negotiating now, see who blinks first is what it is....

Weather Nation comes from my state, the local NBC station took over a previous effort of NBC when it fell apart, and runs that weather show. It is run by a couple of popular previous weather meteorologists from here, and does all right. The local channel pops in on the 5s, to do a local weather segment. Probably don't get that on the sat broadcast. They operate pretty cheaply, as they don't get a whole lot of revenue. I'm sure they like getting the exposure for the moment.

For reference, I believe ESPN is getting over $2 per subscriber for their channels from a sat or cable provider.....

Used to be the local broadcast channels were free to the providers, but they are getting a few cents each also. And so our cable bills keep going up. And up.

For this area I think Weather Nation tends beat The Weather Channel for accurate forecasts.

Weather Nation may have been started by Paul Douglas after WCCO-TV in Minneapolis sacked all their top on-air wage earners. When Paul did the weather for WCCO I thought he was considered the most accurate of the local forcasters. His appentice Bellinda Jensen still forecasts the weather for KARE-TV in Minneapolis and she does some of the Twin Cities local forcasts on Weather Nation also.

Problem is now I can't get local forecast and radar in a minute or two like on TWC,been thinking of switching back to Dish anyway as they offer more channels for the $$$ that I watch.Plus when you switch off one to the other you get a big discount for the 1st year with a 2 year agreement.Weather over and over and over and over gets pretty boring anyway after about the 5th go around seems most folks would Get It good to have other stuff too.

After lunch today I stepped into a stall in the Men's room and saw scribbled on the wall, "Direct TV realized that hot, cold, rain, snow, or dry is all caused by global warming and decided that they don't need to pay the weather channel to tell them that".

I had Directv and switched to Dish then went back to Directv. If Dish was the only choice I would have no satellite.

Not a loss at all

Dump the hype and get a good weather source

NOAA is about the best

Was a time when the weather channel was lobbying Washington to shut down the national weather service so you would hav to pay weather channel a fee to get the weather from them

Don't need to name the snow storms.

I'm not pleased that I get forecasts for only 5 cities in Virginia and nothing for the areas I'm interested in. Bottom line is that I've shifted to my smart phone and so WeatherNation is now just a channel I don't use.

I am glad "The Weather Channel" is gone". It seems that every time I tuned in for weather I got some other show and not the weather I was looking for.
