Bill, I would recommend a GE top loader, GLWN2800D1WS. Love it. It's like the old school machines, you set water lever, mechanical timer, no locking lids, no water sensors, does a load in half the time of a whirlpool. Go on line and find the best price. Look the the G_ _ _ 2800D1WS. It's a 3.9 cubic feet stainless steel tub. We got ours at Lowes because Lowes price matches, 5% off with Lowes credit card, 10% off for vets. The regualar price is $550. Around Christmas, Home Depot had a sale for $500. Lowes price matched and gave another 10%, so we saved $100 at lowes.
Plus the extended waranty at Lowes was only $99 at Sears it was like $159.
Stay away from whirlpools and all other machines that are made like the whirlpool. Just ask the sales people if what you are getting is made by the new whirlpool people. I was told that 4 years ago their was a big change.
Not sure if Menards has GE's.
We like ours.

George Lowes has the machine and will price match menards 11 per cent also have the same basic model up grade on sale at 50 less . Asked about service they said a fellow south of terre haute close to hwy 63 will service for free for 10 years. Thanks Bill

If your a veteran, lowes gives vets a ten percent discount.

Not sure what the up-grade model is. I would stay away with any water sensing and lid lock. I would go for the 2800 series.
I am one of the few that is a fan of Lowes, free delivery, set up and remove old unit. I had them put the old unit on my truck.
Who takes care of it for 10 years? I would definately want someone to waranty it for 10 years.
