Check out Valley news live ND. Crude oil tanker derailed, guess they are saying 7 cars on fire.

Hope everyone is safe and OK.

They are saying 2 trains collided. It is -4 degrees and the temperature is dropping. It is gonna be a long night for the fire fighters.

Scott yea and that's a pretty rural area. I don't think there is any more than volunteer fire fighters for 45 miles in any direction. I'm guessing that they will have to call out the Fargo Hazmat team. Guess now they are saying that 10 cars are burning and no one knows for sure is they are the smaller 15000 gallon tankers or the larger 33000 gallon ones of a combination. I guess this is the 3rd derailment/fire in ND in the last 6 months. And the government is worried about the safety of a pipeline.

And the government is worried about the safety of a pipeline.

I know about the spill out there. Got a niece living in Tioga. That was a spill but not a spill/fire/explosions. Someone dropped the ball on that spill. And I not a huge fan of pipe lines but it's safer than rail.

Gene yea one and the same.

Rural area, but only 1 mile outside of a town, and not far from an
ethanol plant. 10 miles or so west of Fargo. With 10 cars of
crude burning about all you can do is wait for it to go out. The
town of Cassleton has been evacuated due to concerns about
the smoke, at least it wasn't in town, as the trains pass going
through. Met the right of way repair crews on my way home
from work... 3.5 hours to get on scene, they weren't messing
around.

Volunteer firefighters can be very good firefighters. I used to be on a folunteer fire dept in ND. The story I heard is it ia a mile from Caselton and a collision. That would suggest the railroad switching works near town. Casselton is not that small of a community. Here in the bay area we have had a couple of disasters on pipelines that caused loss of life. A gasoline pipeline in Walnut Creek killed 7 ( I was there) and the big San Bruno PG&E natural gass explosion. Nothing is risk free but pipelines are much safer than trucks or trains. As for the guy that combined in the oil slick, if you don't have oil under your land the next best thing is to have Tesoro spill a bunch on it. He will make out.

I spent some time up in Tioga a couple years ago. Cut a bunch of wheat from there south to the lake. Spent more time waiting on the rain to quit than cutting wheat though. Felt too much like winter already in September.
