OT Old trolling motor

I was given an old Minn-Kota trolling motor. Model TS. Made in Moorhead Minnesota. I would like to take it apart to check brushes without ruining it. Anybody know anything about it. Local dealer never heard of the model.

I bought one cheap at a garage sale years ago when the kids were small. I mounted it on an inflatable raft for the kids; they had a good time with that. I sold it with the raft after the kids lost interest in it and moved on to something else.

Call & ask for Dave; he can give you an idea & will likely be able to fix it if necessary. This shop has been in business for 40+ years and does good work!!
Tell him I sent you.

I have had one for 10 yrs with no problem I am on the second battery. If it runs why take it apart. If it aint broke don't fixit. My 2 cents.

Took mine apart a long time ago, a magnet came loose and locked it up. Quick easy repair with some JB Weld.
Basic tools were all that was required and was able to reuse the o-ring that seals it all back up.
Still working fine years later.

I just happen to be the Minn-Kota Special Interest Group leader for the Antique Outboard Motor Club ( http://www.aomci.org ).

The TS was built about 1948. It's actually the earliest Minn-Kota with a model number. Before that, they were just "Troller."

Look for a copy of "The Classic Outboard Handbook" by Peter Hunn. This book is written for the novice outboard collector and has a lot of tips on buying and restoring old motors. It also has several "case studies" wherin the author and a couple friends completely disassemble, repair and restore old motors. One of these case studies is a Minn-Kota model TS. Pages 110 to 115 go through everything along with 14 photographs and a parts breakdown diagram.

As a side note, the Evinrude Ducktwin shown on page 58 is mine.

I live around Cape Girardeau. If you are a collector I would give you this old motor. Are you around the lake? I just wanted to get it apart enough to see the brushes m o o n l i t e 3 7 @ hughes.net
