Got Her Done!

Can't say that I'd recommend changing the gear pump with the tires sucked clear in like this, but we did 'er.

Steers like a Cadillac and the brakes feel like a feather and are instant now. I'm a happy boy! :>)

Glad you finished, it's always nice to have things go right.
Now that you 're done with that, when are you gonna post some Christmas picking for us.

Please share how ou like that 5488. I have been wanting to trade off one of the '86s for a little longer wheelbased tractor for a smoother ride due to some painful degenerative dic issues in my back but am always being told to stay away from the '88 series. A 5088 or 5288 would fit perfect for me.

That has got to be a tight squeeze. I bet it didn't cost half what the pump for my Ford cost.

I need to do a better job of keeping up on the Farmall forum here, I didn't know you had picked up a 5488. Just watch your back, the 'ol girls in the stable may get jealous of the new modern tractor! LOL Good looking tractor.

Total cost of the repair including that missing filter by-pass screen came to $648 plus 5 gallon of oil.

If it wouldn't have been for that tire (lower left part of the picture), it would have been a snap. Darned thing had to come out over the top of those hydrualic control cables, forward of the front pump and then down again to the floor.

Hardest part was gettin' the old one out........well, then gettin' the new one in. :>)

Yeah,

New modern tractor......31 years old. :>)

My friend (dealer) found this tractor, which was really needing some TLC. He did the hard repairs and I agreed to take care of the pesky little stuff. :>)

The 88's are a lot nicer to operate than the 86's. We have a 3688 on a friends farm its not a bad tractor but don't seem as durable as the old 86's. I have been told that the 5088 is a better tractor though but its still hard to beat the old 1066.

i owned a 5088 for one year and sold it only cause it heart so bad to ride it,only reason sold it. i went to deer unit 4440 at that time and never went back to red rest of my days farming. i have a 4450mfwd for sale now, just no longer need the unit
