Year for record breakdowns

I just got done putting a starter bendix in the 1600 Oliver. Everything's pretty much up and going again.

What a year for breakdowns! It started in February with the motor going in the wife's pickup. Then the clutches in both big tractors. The splines got ground off of the PTO long shaft in the flywheel of the 1850 Oliver, then the top seal in the steering hydramotor. The spring came unwound on the bottom variable speed drive pulley on the combine,I broke a thousand dollar roller in the round baler that wasn't worth fixing at that price so I bought a different baler. The gearbox went to heck under the mixer on the New Holland grinder mixer a week ago yesterday. Got that back together Wednesday. Then of course there was the usual tires, wires, hoses, belts, wheel bearings, sealed bearings and all the other things that make keeping this stuff running so much fun.
And I won't even get in to the problems the weather caused to crops and livestock!
Just glad this year is finally about over.

Yep. Same here, got threw 2012 hay season with no breakdowns, not so this year. Haybine reel belt broke, just as I made 1 pass around the field, bent the pto shaft on my Tedder because the tractor 3pt hitch settled over night, I dident realize it was under the pto when I started the tractor.lucky it was long enought to cut out the bend of the shaft, Then the baler thrower acted up! Now I"m rebuilding the plunger and wear guides in it ect. Well see what 2014 brings! Lol

I appreciate all you farmers do to keep our food supply affordable and safe. I grew up on a farm and understand what you go through to farm. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's not. I'm not sure that the general population understands the issues farmers deal with, but I'm doing my small part to try to educate them.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas to all you bonafide farmers.

seems like they go that way at times for sure, for me repairs were nothing out of ordinary really but is was a tire year for me over $8000.00 worth this year but hey it can always be worse
cnt

Hasent been all that great around here eather.
13 isent knowen as a real lucky number ya know
14 8) 8) 8) Come on in
O..And just let me say Thank You for doing your part in helping keep the econemey going..   .
Just a little kidding ...OK

Been a pretty easy couple of years.Nothing major and damn little minor as well.Just wait.My turn's a comin'....

It must have been my turn, I'll be glad to pass it on. A clutch in my pickup, clutch in the freightliner, clutch in 5600, and a complete engine in one of the 7610 Fords, harmonic balancer gear came off and knocked it out of line bore....

And it's all a tax write-off. LOL Folks who don't have livestock usually don't hear about all the machinery troubles a livestock farmer has to endure. Next year should be better for you now that a few things are fixed up? Jim

I'd say the same for hay and row crop farmers too! But your
right some have no idea were food comes from, or what it
takes to produce it. The two things I read that ill never foget,
one woman said why do I need a farmer, I have a grocery
store to go to, other one was some woman did a "study" and
said animals cows ect all have the same personalitys. They
don't think different from one another. Apparently this bozo
never worked around any anmial, not even a cat! Lol, I can't
remember we're I read if.

Row crop and hay farmers do have breakdowns too for sure. And most of us have been involved with all of them. The animals have to eat, drink and have a clean bed so that makes a livestock breakdown a little more urgent than a field breakdown.

When I think of a livestock breakdown I think of the grinder mixer unloading auger taking a dump on a cold night when the mixer is full and a feeder is empty after you've just come home from a wedding. Jim

Yes, or the gutter cleaner chain breaks, or the manure
spreader, ect lol, been there done that, there's nothing better
than fixing the gutter chain, when it's full of manure and 3 *
out!

Oh go ahead, get all new equipment.
Think of it as a retirement fund! LOL
Keep on keeping on. ;)
Oh, and Merry Christmas!

Almost made it through this season with no major breakdowns, but at the end the combine and my JD D got me. Combine canvas and clean grain elevator are fixed, D is waiting for parts and warmer weather. Maybe next year.

Aint that the truth ,, I feel Your Pain ,wORST YEAR EVER for me at TARA ..seems like everythinfg I own needs at least 1 hour of wrenchin before I go to the field ,, sometimes serveral days work ,...most things I can fix easily ,just gotto find time ,

I here ya, this spring the two big tractors went down, engine in mine and ps in dads the next day, was not fun trying to get planting done with one tractor. To many things to mention, but one thing sticks in my mind is when I was going to bale hay for a guy and the 4020 was in front of the baler, went to move it and the hydraulic hose was tied to the back of the 4020, (I was not a happy dad) my five year old said he hooked the baler up for me!

Ya,Merry Christmas to you and Joan too. We got the card. Thanks. I'm sure Kim thanked Joan online too.

Amen. Many a time I've turned the cleaner on and closed my eyes and crossed my fingers that I didn't here a BANG somewhere. Or on another dairy related headache, it's 1:30AM and you're just getting started milking because a bunch or relays got fried and you finally just got the pump to kick on. Oh, and it's mid summer, you were filling silo all day, and you know that in the morning you have to fix the chopper because a hunk or something made it into the machine causing unknown amounts of carnage. Ahhh, the joys....
