Current war wounds

I told the neighbor yesterday I am too beat up to die anytime soon - they couldn't have an open casket.

Two months ago a calf got me in the chute and I haven't been able to move that wrist since. Last week I twisted an ankle in the hog pen so bad it turned purple. Yesterday I was taking the straps off a load of round bales and the hook end of the strap got me. When they come down from that high at that speed they can sure ruin a foot. I stepped out of the way but it still blackened that foot. I shudder to think what that would have looked like without my heavy boots. Thank goodness I have a Dr. visit Monday to sort some of this out.

Currently my hands aren't bloodied up, but that's only because I'm wearing thick gloves 24/7.

Current wound count?

You gots to be careful.
I have an old buddy of mine from high school, his FIL got caught on one of those hay lifts while loading into the barn. He died. very sad too cause he had plenty of money. He sold 40 acres to a school district and got almost a million bux. I think he was in his mid 60s too.
He could have had his son in law do the work, my buddy is a 5-10, 220 lb fella.

I don't know? I've seen undertakers do some pretty amazing stuff to folks you wouldn't think could have had an open casket.

One major wound: Concussion! However, my nerves are "jangled" and I have other symptoms in various parts of my body that bother me almost as much as the continuous headache. Dr. said that it could last days, weeks or several months.

Don't need any more wounds; the one that I have will be enough to last me a long time.

guess im lucky only lost the use of one arm .they did a check on hand strength one was very bad compared to the other i said it might be do to that hay hook i stuck in it or that time i got caught in the 3 pt or that calf she finnally asked me did the doc say i broke a bone looked her right in the eye and said why would i go to doc for little things. She had no sence of humor

My rule of thumb is if I don't have to go to the hospital, it's not really a wound. I nearly cut my fingertip off a few years ago. Flopped it back on and wrapped it in gauze. It healed up fine.

Currently being quite humbled by arthritis in the ankle, had to stash one crutch upstairs, and one down stairs, just can't seem to be able to hop on one leg up the stairs LOL ! Time for home remedies, lots of water too, no fun at all darned arthritis, be fine in the tractor seat, its just everything else ! Win some, lose some, then there is arthritis LOL !

My son's arm last summer. Be careful when you use a high speed buffer. Jim

OUCH!!! Can you give a little more detail?

That's A LOT of staples for a buffer, was the trigger locked on? That is a nasty wound.

Rick

Trigger locked on. He was in a tight spot buffing an aluminum fuel tank and the wheel grabbed on a bracket. No muscles or tendons hurt, thank god. I found out our Toyota van will easily cruise at 90MPH on the way to the ER. The buffer was laying on the floor running wide open when we got back home. I didn't sleep well that night and neither did he. That's his gear shifting arm but he was back driving in a week. Jim

It's sadder because he had plenty of money? That's like saying it's worse when a celebrity dies. Nobody is more important than anyone else. I think it's the saddest when a child dies.

A little incentive to be careful- local non-profit hospital's current base prices (x-rays, labs, physician, meds, etc. NOT included)

*Room $633 per day but TV and local phone calls included
*ICU room $1342 per day
*ER visit (basic) $522
*Operating room (basic) $9960
*Anesthesia (basic) $1906
And if you really aren't careful with extra-curricular activities
*delivery room $5191

Had a 3 week vacation in a burn unit last year. $4,000 a day for the first week ,then $2,000 a day after that. luckily I had good insurance. They did take good care of me.

(quoted from post at 15:05:20 12/21/13) At least they put a little handle on there to zip
that thing open and shut.....
OL. That's a drain tube. It was supposed to drain out on the outside of the tube. He didn't even feel it when the doc pulled the tube out. I still can't get used to the pic. Jim

that sounds like a broken wrist. Buddy of mine broke his in a fall where he tried to catch himself by putting his hands out. Had pains with it for a year but didn't seriously hamper him. Noticed he couldn't throw a baseball near as far as he usually did & it hurt to throw. After putting up with it for a year, on a trip to the Doc about something else, he mentioned it. X rays showed it broken but healed. Had to re-break & cast, then ok.

I have been pretty fortunate here as of late.'Bout the worst injury I ever had was about four years ago when I tore a rotor cuff while lifting A battery into the trunk of a car. Had it repaired, did as I was told, and after several weeks of therapy now have about 90% use of shoulder and arm. Doc said that was about as good as it would get.
And, as in so many instances, this was due to my own carelessness, I tried to shift the position of the battery while setting it down, and let go of the strap with one hand. I almost blacked out from the pain.

War wounds? Are you guys nuts? I've got mine and I pay for them every day in pain, lack of mobility and suffering. I got all of mine as a result of military service. I'm disabled for life. Pain is my bedfellow. And you guys are bragging about injuries that could have been avoided? OK accidents happen. You don't have to push the limits to prove that. If an accident happens you pay for it through pain and suffering, sometimes for life. Stop trying to justify non combatant, non war injuries to make yourself feel like a man. In the long run you will fell like an older, in pain daily man, wondering why you did that stupid stuff in the first place!

BE SAFE!! Take care of your bodies! That body has to last you the rest of your life!

Rant over!

Rick
