Events that Mark the Passing of Time

Realizing the date of the day made me stop and think about the events that are milestones in our lives. I have never been a person that keeps a calender. I do good to keep up with the day of the week. I rarely give people an exact starting date of a job within more than a day or two. I tell them that I will be there as soon as I finish what I am doing.
I know where I was when I heard JFK had been shot. I know the year I graduated from high School. I remember where I was 9/11. Just recently it came to me that in August it was 40 years ago that We moved from the farm into town. This morning it is on My mind that today it has been 20 years since My First Wife died.

Every day before I go to bed I write down in a log what I did that day, have kept it up now for 15 years. Sometimes I read them and it amazes me how it jogs my memory to remember that day/week and the details that come back to mind.

What's also amazing is when I find an Indian Arrow Head I can remember the location of where I found each one and what crop was in the field. Some I have found while driving tractors, riding a bike thru the bean rows when I was a kid, some just walking or I even found one on the axle of an old potato digger I once had. The arrow head fell thru the rattle chain while in a dirt clod that landed on the 1" diameter axle. Then that night it rained and washed the dirt off from top of the arrow head and exposed it as it balance on some dirt on the top side of the little axle.

i see the pain your in i have lossed and came close to lossing loved ones on christmas and its hard to be cheerfull and festive with those memories. people tell you be happy on christmas but its hard when something bad always happens about this time.
i wish you the best and take care of yourself godbless larry

That is amazing. I also remember too. I recently sold my small collection to a collector friend. I noted the section # and what part of the section, and township location where each were found. He was amazed and really glad I did this. Some were found over 50 yrs. ago and I could still take you to the exact location where they were found. With the exception of one, which is now under about 15 feet of water after a lake was built.

Ron, I believe we all have marks that cause us to remember what happened that day. Some, are traumatic and cause us pain even years later. There are others, day we were married or birth of our son, that are such reasons to celebrate that they seem to overpower the unpleasant times. The best of these comes this coming Wednesday.
Hope your memories help you to continue being the husband, father, son, and hard working human that you appear to be. You will be blessed.

Would love to see your collection or anyone else's. I will get mine together and post pictures over the Holidays. Where I grew up there was apparently a large concentration right around our house. After a rain bits of pottery were every where.

I remember things like JFK and 9/11 but the one I really would like o remember was the War of the Worlds on radio. I was only about two months old.
When people what year I was born I always say during the War of the Worlds, the other day at the doctors office the girl taking my blood answered 1938. Really surprised me she was only about late 30s.

Some things I will remember with no problem. Where I was when JFK was shot, and 911. My service number I was issued when I entered the Navy, and my SS number. When I can't remember those things, then I know I have a problem. Stan

I remember when the neighbor brought me a German Shepherd puppy when I was 4 years old! Also remember Pearl Harbor, and graduating from high school in 1952.

Glad to here someone else does that too. I"ve kept a log book for 23 years. Started it the day I was laid off from a job. That was the only layoff I suffered in 35 years of engineering work.

kept a log since 1983. Truly amazing how much stuff you forget. Sometimes you wonder if you really did all that.

Aug 31 2013, my wife lost her battle with cancer. Jealous she is with Jesus and sad that it is just the boys and I for Christmas.
