After 16 years I finally "lost" my Leatherman. I know its around here somewhere, I just can"t seem to figure out where I sat it down. I"ve been looking since September for it.

Thinking about buying two of the cheap $10 replacements, keep one in the house and one around the shop.

Any recommendations?

Rick

Mine lives on my belt and never let it out of my sight. I got a new one for Christmas 4 or 5 years ago - still in my dresser. The old one got sent back for repair once after 10 or 12 years of use.
FYI - You can not cut hog panels with it.

How have you been able to go since September without it?! Do not buy a cheap knockoff. Not worth the frustration. Buy another leatherman, and if you find the first, well then you have your two.

Hey Rick.

I have to keep replacing mine in its pouch or I will lay it down and lose it.

Handiest critter that I have. I use it several times a day.

Brad

Hopefully it will show up. I sent a broken one to their factory in Oregon to get repaired. I didn't receive it, Two months went by, called them, they couldn't read my return address. Four days later I had a upgraded brand new one. That's service!

My first year at BSA Camp, I bought a Winchester "multi tool" basically a leather man. HOWEVER, I still have this thing almost 8 years later, and I can't seem to break it! I cut old barbed wire fences with almost weekly, and it will just chomp right through them! I use it for every thing that my fingers can't do them selves, and probably for a lot of things that it shouldn't be used for, but it sure gets the job done! Best thing I have ever owned, my dad on the other hand has an actual leather man, however his is almost a show knife, it gets used once in a great while, however mine walks around with me in my right front pocket all day every day. The sheath that cam with it basically disinengreated, so until I find a new one, it rides in my pocket! Bryce

its too bad they do not make the origional leatherman tool anymore,it was nearly a perfect multitool!

I have three and always miss placing them. Did lose my big Super tool one. I know I left in on the trailer, but back tracked 1/2 mile later, but it was gone. One fell out when I was under the house found it 5 months later. Working on my carrier as we speak. Wished they made one that the belt slipped all the way thought. Might have to have a leather man make one. I broke two and they replaced both of them. Need a GPS chip in them. LOL

When they first got popular I thought thats just another Gadget,I've got tool boxes full of tools.
About 17yrs ago when I was Fire Chief one of our Firefighters gave Me one for Christmas.
I haven't been without one since.
I'm on My third one now. The first one got abused
something terrible. Then My Wife bought Me the next better one, carried it for 11yrs then lost it this fall.
That great Lady I'm married to bought Me an early Christmas preasent when She saw how frustrated I was without it.
We then sent Hers in for repair, two weeks later it came back.
Thats a pretty good company!
And "Made In America"
Don't buy a cheep one, You'll regret it.

use mine daily, Best description of it I have heard is "the tool you use when you don"t have the correct tool for the job with you". Bill

Got a few Leatherman from various vendors and at trade shows as gifts. Gave 3 of them away, but kept 2 of them for myself that I've only used once or twice.

I misplaced a #2 Phillips screqdriver once; took me 6 months to find it - and I lost it again the next week.

Only thing I found that my Leatherman can't do(actually it did but reluctantly) was cut romax wire with 120 V going through it. Now it refuses to cut anything.

This was an original Leatherman I lost, before they made the Wave and some of the other fancier ones. The handles did cut into your hand a little.

I work a lot of hours during the week and try to squeeze the tree farm and all my other projects into nights and weekends. Because of this, I usually have 4-5 projects going on at once. I know I sat it down on one of these projects and it hasn't reappeared yet.

Off to go shopping and see what I find. Hopefully the model with the GPS on it!!

Buy two cheap ones and your old one will turn up when you get back from town. No sense in having two Leatherman's around

I find my Leatherman to be real handy and almost always have it in the pocket of whatever pants I am wearing.

Years ago my Wife bought me a second Leatherman, which I keep as a spare. The few times I have misplaced my original Leatherman, the second one filled in nicely.

Great tool. Very durable, just needs a bit of sharpening on the knife blade once in awhile and some oil in the pivots. I would hate to be without one for any length of time.

I would just buy a new one, and hope the original would show up. Good luck!

I've lost mine twice - it will fall out of my pliers pocket when I'm riding the three wheeler. Been lucky and spotted it later both times.

Hello Rick Kr,

I'd just found one! Any identifying nicks or marks you can tell me your tool had?.......... Just kidding. I would say its about time to get another one.

I've had 2 different sized leatherman tools for years. One for work and one for home. Recently I did a warranty claim on both, as they were like me - getting loose and worn out. and they replaced them entirely with the current model. Along with another 25 year warranty! Tell you, buy good tools and it's worth it long term. Very pleased. They'll probably outlast me now,

They are the best and most used tool. I also don't recomend that you buy a knockoff they are not the same. I've had a dozen of them over the years, some given as gifts some were replacements from the original. one tip for all; don't let the help barrow it unless they are in your sight. this is one tool that if you use it you gotta have one of your own.

Hum, Mine is missing also. Could it be the washing machine sock thief have expanded to Leatherman multi-tools? (I think mine slipped off my belt, somewhere). In my experience the cheap ones don't stand up and are just frustrating. I have an industrial Gerber that I have to send in for repair, but it's larger than the one I lost.

wife bought me my first one 1990 or so, the kids managed to leave it on the truck bed while we were cutting wood, it disappeared. I went on Ebay and bought another used one, then later two more. I still have all three.

I depend on mine - carry it constantly. Use it numerous times a day. Everything form cutting hay bales open to cutting wires. File and screwdrivers also very useful, along with the scissors and knife. Damaged mine a year or so ago. Sent it back, they rebuilt it - several new parts. Only took a few days, but I about went nuts without it! Only complaint - the file they put in has coarser teeth. One side of the old one was just right for filing broken finger nails! They don"t make a direct replacement for mine, and I like mine just the way it is. Would be very upset if I lost it and couldn"t replace it. Have a couple knock offs, they just don"t do the job as well. Besides, Leatherman is more compact, fits in my pocket, even dress pants without showing. Knockoffs are just a little too big. I"ve mislaid mine a few times, go crazy looking for it.

I've lost both of mine this year! Lost another one 3-4 years back. That's well over $150.00 worth of tools. I still have my Schrade/Vise Grip multi-tool. Basically a small needle nose Vise Grip with a leatherman type handle. Best tool ever, even better than the Leatherman. Naturally it's discontinued and a collectors item.

Used to have several leatherman's, but don't like the new ones. I carry a pair of Wilde Tool pliers now. These things laugh at barbed and 9 wire. I have on;ly had this pair 2 months but I have had to replace Channellock pliers in less time than that for goobering up the hinge pin.
