Took the first pics while waiting for trafic to clear or some accident. The red car started spinning about where I'm sitting and ended up where he is while passing between a truck and another car, but he hit none. The last are looking out from Dart's yard in Lancaster on the Se. corner of Dallas.

Great, but the dash was making all kind a noises sometimes. The anti-lock, traction control, and stability control all got used today.

(quoted from post at 16:12:00 12/06/13) Here where I live, Northern, NY state, we have more ice than that in the summer.

I was about to say the same thing. That's not much more than a good hard frost! Guess it's all in what you're used to. I never got the watery beer or chili without beans in it either...

I live in central Texas just north of Austin. People freak out when it rains and the road is wet, if they have to deal with ice, they just stay home... good thing. Let's us northerners drive normally without them.

A few decades and years back, I remember when they used to show the first snow of Texas on our news in Indiana, and I used to say "They sure can't drive down there". Then I joined the Army and one of my duties was Ft. Hood, TX. Rain far and few between, and when it did rain, weeks and months build up of oil and dust soot would get washed off the roads, making it like an ice skating rink in July. Kind of hard to crown roads for run off when everything is flatter than flat and its tens, tens, and tens of miles between towns to even bother with it. Never got much snow or ice either, so didn't and may still not have the equipment to deal with it because simple economics say that its not cost effective to purchase as much snow removal equipment as Winnipeg, Manitoba, and that made driving on snowy icy days in Texas a bear. I'm from Indiana where we get rain, snow, and ice and have learned to navigate it. Down in Texas where they don't get it so much, when they do, its not the same as it is up here, and thinking that because I'm from up here and know how and what to do up here, doesn't work the same down there. I know. I was there. Much easier said than done. It aint the same or even close to it. Under those conditions, what I wouldn't give to watch a video comedy of some Upper Peninsula type say, "Give me the wheel, I'm a better driver than Mario Andretti ever dreamed of being". Been there, done that, learned my lesson long, long ago.

I honestly miss living in Texas, but can't have everything can we?

Good luck.

I live in central Texas. I drove a truck cross country for several years. The last company that I worked for if you were a new hire you had the privilege of going to Winsted, Minn from Oct until March for your first 3 years. Ice is ice anywhere. I had to spend several days layed over up there, some during ice storms. People everywhere have the same problems. You up north can drive on snow better than the folks here but when it comes to ice you can't unless you put on chains or studded tires. Studded tires are outlawed in Texas. Chains only help you go not stop.

Google this morning's Dallas Morning News, especially if you are a trucker or were one.

A lot of freight goes through town on I 20 or 30 and if you are on the road you can't help it, load has to get to the destination within the delivery window.

But this mess! I really feel for these guys and gals.
