security/trail camera

what is the most reliable security camera that you have used or know about to keep your tractor under surveilance? I seem to only get junk that lasts barely till the warranty is over Thanks for your feedback

I have three different models of trail cameras for security purposes. Had four but someone walked off with one of them. They all have their limitations. Had two viewing same thing for several months and they did not always capture the same movements. One goes nuts when it gets cold and fills a 4 gig card in one night. 3950 pictures of nothing. Did it last year and same this year. Haven't had any of them fail completely, just not doing what they should do sometimes.

If you read the comments owners make of several different brands and models you will see many complaints about all of them.

Boler,

I"ve had four different brands of "game" cameras. So far, the best luck was Moultrie m100, but they no longer make it.

I just ordered a newer version. I do have the "blackout" IR version. I think the Moultrie(s) are all nearly 4 years old, out in the weather, Minnesota has some extremes, and they cameras are still going strong.

I do not use the tree strap, I make customized mounts so as not to tip my hand to the "deer".

My Moultrie is going on its third winter. Cant remember the model number, picked it up on close out for $70. No problems. It does seem to like batteries when it colder out. But it also takes around 300 pictures a week. I get a month of out 6 D cells in it.

What is the range of a trail camera? Will it pick up a person/car/truck at 250 feet and take their picture.
I want to buy a few of these to keep trespassers off my land, and my road.

I've had a Bushnell for a couple of years now and it has been ok. Good battery life. Night time pics are a little grainy sometimes. Daytime quite good.
This is a night time shot from earlier this month.

well I have had 4 Moultries and 2 of them were deemed unrepairable electronically by Moultrie, the 2 I have left , one the flash doesnt work and the other one the screen is unreadable but it still takes pictures, , Just wondering if there is a better brand I also have 2 NUways and one of them quits when it gets cold??

On mine I would say the effective range is maybe 70-80feet. It does pick up the combine and tractor of the neighbor during harvest.

I'd second or third the Moultries brand. I just buy the $69 ones Wal-Mart sells and they've been pretty good too.

i been wonder if one of the video dash cam hook to 12v battery with a tender on it wouldn't work better then a trail cam

I have two Moultries. The model A5, I don't like it. It's a cheapie. The other is a model M990i. I like this one. It's the one with more information on the bottom of the picture.

We have 6 Bushnell trophy cams. The oldest one is around 3yrs old. They've served well enough I don't look at other brands. Be careful setting them up for security. My brother did that and they still took the stuff out of the car(change), then somehow spotted his camera and took that. Haven't been back since though.

Checked mine today. I have it 20 feet from the baitpile. From the camera to the fence row is 43 feet. It will pick up the tractor and combine a pass or two in. So maybe 90 feet tops. And a combine and big 4wd JD 9000 series is a little bigger than truck you are trying to capture.
