This particular group wont leave anything alone, when they arent eating they are pushing,licking, chewing , rubbing and messing with anything and everything! Hay bunks,water tank, fences, the barn, anything ! Any ideas how to keep em busy ? lol

We set a couple posts and bolt an old rear tractor tire to the posts. That will keep them amused for a while. I have seen used rotary broom attachments set on end too, that gives them something to rub on. If they are chewing a lot on things maybe they need a salt block or some mineral.

If they"re chewing on wood, check the phosphorus level in their ration. Very common with cattle and horses.

Get a good all purpose mineral with at least 6% phosphorous and feed it free choice.

Are you sure they are all steers? It sounds like the one I had a while back that wasn't banded properly and turned out to be a bull.

The licking and chewing sounds to me like they are lacking salt and minerals.they need both free choice.The rubbing is probably a lice issue.Ivomec pour on gets rid of lice and internal worms.What weight are these steers?I do like the tractor tire bolted to posts idea.I'm sure they would spend a lot of time playing around by the tire and maybe leave the tank and barn alone.

I went to "Toys-R-Us" and bought a couple of their hop balls: 15" ish plastic inflatable ball with a handle kids sit on and hop around.

I tied them inside the covered loafing area about 2' off the ground. Works great. The shed covers a walkway from the loafing shed where I keep the salt, and the trough where they eat. Fun to watch them go out of their way to whack a ball as they go by.

Yes as soon as I saw chewing I thought mineral salt block too. When I was younger the cows just loved it when you left a tractor parked in the barn yard. They would lick all of the grease off it. If they had a little more time they would eat the ignition wires TOO!!! Jeffcat
