OT--Craigslist??

I have bought a lot of items on CL, even a small tractor, so I check local everyday.

Times must be hard or someone knows value better then me. There was a listing for a BOX TURTLE--$50--with nice photo. Seller stated he didn't know if it was a boy or girl turtle and it wondered into his yard a few days ago???

I see them regularly in my yard, didn't know they were valuable?

Here in AZ it is illegal to touch, pick up or molest in any way box turtles(desert tortoise) except to remove them from danger such as off a road. In the summer when there is no water available, they get their water from whatever they eat and store what they don't use to survive. Picking them up will make them pass water and in the heat of summer this can lead to their death. They are all over where we live and find them in our yard frequently. It's fun to watch them stretch their neck out and enjoy the cool water from a lawn sprinkler.

In Missouri that is illegal due to the game laws.

Friend of mine found a desert tortoise in his backyard one day. Cement block walls around the back yard, so he doesn't know how it got there (Someone must have dropped it over the fence?).

He fed it, but then left it there when he sold the house to a group of airline stewardess's. They loved the idea of having a tortoise in their backyard.

Asking a price and getting a price is a totally different thing. Have you ever heard the old saying "a fool is born every day" or "a fool and his money soon part"?

I'll second that. There is little way of knowing on Craig's List if an item actually sold and for what. I check the listings for items like mine before I list an item. I know I can not get more for my item than what equal items are listed for but I still run the risk of the situation where everyone is asking too much for their items and even at a few bucks lower than theirs mine will still be just another not selling.

In case anyone really wants to know, to tell the gender of a turtle, turn it over. Male turtles have a concave bottom shell, females have a flat undershell. The concave shell bottom helps with matting.

Now you know.
