talk about earning your pay, this guy is trimming on a transmission line in 15 to 20 MPH winds, he"s within 150 yards of my house and he sure is doing a job of bobbing around, can see him fighting the stick with the binoculars

Unless the ends of his rotors are real sharp I cant see in the photos what he is trimming with.

He is trimming the power lines with a 24" rotating saw blade at the bottom of that long drop down shaft. There are at least 5 rotating blades that you do not see in the photos.
Had one here last year trimming the power lines and could not figure what was going on. Drove over to the lines for a better look and could not believe it. He was flying up and down following the hills and valleys flying along the right of way clearing the tree limbs.
Sounds like a tree saw on steroids as I was 1/2 mile away.

There was just a fellow hunting from a tree stand almost got chopped up with one of those. I think field&stream had the story.

Here's another "earning your pay". I have a high voltage power line owned by TVA running across my farm. It has the outrageously tall metal towers and it has four huge support arms sticking out from the tower. Each arm supports three power lines, so there are twelve actual conductors (plus a ground) up there.

The wires are kept separated from one another with "star-shaped" separators along the lines between the towers.

About three years ago, TVA replaced all of the separators. They flew a helicopter along the wire with a guy sitting out on the skid of the helicopter. Take an old separator off, put a new separator on.

They were either very brave or very stupid.
