Grounding on tractor

Will it cause problems using a bolt that holds the aluminum rear cover on my G as a spot to hook up the ground cable? Cable would make contact with the aluminum cover. Thanks.

A copper wire in contact with aluminum will cause a chemical reaction that will produce a layer of corrosion in due time and render the ground contact useless. Better to attach to a steel part of the tractor.

When two dis similar metals are in contact galvanic battery action and oxidation takes place which eventually corrodes. If I had my "druthers" Id prefer the frame ground be at a nice clean shiny bright metal to metal location and I often used stainless steel bolts (into a solid frame member NOT a sheet metal battery box etc) with the bite down star lock washers and flat washers then covered over with silicone to prevent moisture and oxygen (oxidation) contact. NOW THATS A GROUND LOL

GM (as an example) had a similar situation on lots of their front wheel drive cars... the ground cable went to a bell housing bolt. The bell housing is aluminum. They used a double-ended stud. One end was screwed into the cast iron block and the cable attached to the other threaded end, so there was NO direct contact between the aluminum and the lug on the end of the cable.

Yo Bob, youre kinda handy to have around as far as some of these trivial yet very informative tips, don't ya run off now like some do on here lol I often know the theory but not the hands on type of info like you just posted

ll true ...AND...when the battery goes searching for a good solid GROUND, a cable attached to a sheet metal tray or thin sheet aluminum mught just break out. :^(
