Is english a dead language?

I was recently given a Yanmar tractor as part of a debt. i was told it didn't get fuel to the injectors. I advertised it to recoup my money on craigslist as as "as is dead project" one of the replies was a guy that had one with a holed block. I cut my price in half, asis, where is. I want it. Waited a week and today he wondered if we had it running and did it have a good battery? What part of as is didn't he understand? Is english really dead?

Maybe you were supposed to fix it all up, paint it, and give it to him for free - maybe even fill it with fuel and change all the fluids. I don't think this was an English translation problem. Ignorant you can work with, stupid is permanent.

I'd say that was a typical craigslist experience.

Ya Criag's list is full of people who do not really want what you have or not not carry threw with things. I think out of say 10 ads I answer I get maybe 2 that have or do as they say

Lack of reading comprehension is nothing new. Your average person only comprehends about 10% of what they read.

The key is putting the important information where people are likely to get it.

Back in high school writing class they taught us that people read and comprehend the first and last sentences of whatever they read the most.

No but Latin is. Funny in these crossword puzzles you get at the discount store, they frequently ask what Nero's language was and the answer is Latin. It's a 2nd and 3rd person language, not including 1st person singular. So how do you talk to someone when everything is in the "past tense" Having had 2 years of it I know better.
