Been chopping stalks....

Finally got the IH 60 chopper operational. Works quite well. Gets cold at night though without the cab. Hopefully by next year will have it back on.

Alan,

Many years ago I tried some row crop farming in Southern Minnesota. The land had been in corn the previous year by the previous farmer. I disked the stalks and tried to plow with my Super M and a 3-14 plow. The plow constantly clogged up with the corn stalk residue. I tried disking some of it again, and the plow still plugged. I tried trailing some 9 gauge wire off the plow to try to divert the stalks down, and it still plugged.

I bought an old used stalk chopper and ran over the field with it. No more clogs in the plow. That old stalk chopper was a life-saver.

I'm glad you got your machine fixed.

Not really too much....its an MM...it just grunts a little lol. The chopper is a step up from the 4 row that I used last year. Before that I used a 2 row IH rotary. That took a while.

Plowing stalks can be "fun". I tried something similiar on our plow years ago to try and keep the stalks down. Didnt work the best but seem to help a little. It seems some years leaving them alone helps but other years it doesnt. Was always different in picked corn as well.
