Well since the weather did not cooperate to get any crops in we just started to get prepared for the upcoming season. Heres a few shots.

Most of the land is in the CRP but we still do have some acres we are farming. View of the west side of the farm.

We spent most of the weekend fixing this coop up to move the ones from the tractors to here for winter. Just need a little paint.

Loren,

Thinking the same thing.Sure would be a nice road to go for a tractor ride on.

Vito

Looked close at your pictures and I liked them.

However I could not see any chicken tractors, just some old skid sheds with chicken wire over the opennings. Did I miss something?

What town are you close to? I was raised just north of Waterloo and we had a WC AC just like yours.

Can"t resist....you have a hydrant mounted on the drawbar of a WC??? That must be handy....would have been nice in the 50s when I was little, and had to carry water to the chickens and pigs, plus hand pump for the cows across the road! We had 2 WCs at the time, and neither one had a hydrant!!!

Was this what you were looking for.

You will not see many of these in a farm setting but you will see them at a Grand parents house where the purpose is entertaining the grand kids.

Nice pics Jim, looks like your method of raising chickens was a success.

Thanks everyone. We are in far northeast Iowa near the town of Castalia which is about 15 miles south east of Decorah and we are about 45 miles west of Prairie Du Chien Wisconsin. We are in Winneshiek county. The farm has been in my family since 1888.

The chicken tractors were ones we built earlier this summer from mostly scraps and were somewhat of our own design and somewhat from plans in one of my wife's books. They did work well for raising the three groups chicks my wife hatched out earlier this year. I think we are going to use them more as a portable coop next summer and fence the chickens out around them. Too difficult to move with the birds still in them. I have seen many diffent styles of chicken tractors, these are ours. Love the one pictured! Bet the grandkids love it.

Sorry but the WC does not have a hydrant installed in the rear. lol Although I could see the handiness of that! That is my most recent purchase. I was at an auction and I thought it was selling cheap, you know the rest. We already have four other WCs, not sure if that one will stay or not.

The road is to the west the farm about half a mile. I know the picture doesn't show it but that was taken on top of the hill looking down. Long gentle grade down and the next hill is a near drop off.

That is actually the old milk house/summer kitchen/well house etc building. Our well is still in there. Still 50 ft deep.

That's a CLASSY lookin house! I like the details on the upper and the porch around the main level. That style has never gone out.

The barn behind the honey wagon - what is it made of? Those look like glazed clay block? maybe i'm wrong. How old is it? Looks pretty short in height, so I'm guessing it was built by immigrants long time ago... Very interesting looking.

Thank you for the photos.
