after workin outside I get so cold and just cant seem to get warm.ive got sugar so my circulation isn"t great in my legs and when I go to bed they seem so cold.i cant seem to get a blanket to last more than a winter,i sleep on one all night and am looking for suggestions on a good blanket to warm my bed.id rather a a really good one I have to keep turned down than most I need on the highest setting

t is my opinion/observation, comparing old & newer e-blankets, that the "safety police' & liability lawyers have destroyed this product. New units simply don't heat! NWAS!
I have a very old heating pad (12 x 16 inches) that is 50 Watts and a current day whole bed e-blanket that is only 100 Watts!!! Now, I need to find my very old e-blanket & see what it consumes.......it really works!!!

I have a heated mattress pad that does the trick for me...I prefer it over an electric blanket...I need to replace mine soon..it is about 12 years old. I put a normal pad over it so I can"t feel the wires in it. I can never get in a cold bed again........
You say you've got sugar, I assume you mean you have diabetes, probably type 2. Diabetics aren't supposed to use electric blankets because those who neglect their medications end up with nerve damage and can get burnt by an electric blanket and not realize it.
Having said that, I am a type 2 diabetic who does use an electric blanket because my bedroom is cold due to no insulation. I was sent to a nursing home to recover from cancer surgery and complained to a nurse about my legs always being cold. She spoke to a doctor and I was prescribed Gabapentin and was told it might take a week to get results. 3 nights later my legs felt fine at night. You need to talk to your doctor about your problem, you might be surprised by the results.

Electric blankets are great. You can turn it on early to get into a warm bed and the room can be pretty cold and your still warm. If you get dual controls the wife can have a different setting. We put winter sheets on our bed and I almost never turn the setting past 3 out of a scale up to 10.Wife keeps hers at 8 or 9 setting. They have safety mechanisms so if you forget to turn it off it will go off by itself.If you have a cat that sleeps on the bed you will never get rid of it with an electric blanket.
ive got type 1,have been for 22 yrs,have neuropathy too,pretty bad also.been on a pump since 99 and the needle before that.my clucose level fluctuates a lot due to being insulin resistant somewhat,due to chemo and radiation over the years.ive always used a e-blanket,and the wife.wife is gone and these blankets anymore just don't seem to get warm enough or stay on long enough

We have one of these, I"m happy with it. The one it replaced was a WallyWorld special that never seemed to get warm (tossed that one in the trash).
Make sure you get one with a digital controller and preheat feature (warms up much faster than normal, then backs off to the comfortable setting).

A new electric blanket needs to have a good blanket over it or you lose the heat. Took me a awhile to learn that one so I keep an extra blanket covering my lower half.

Nothing warms me faster than a good old WOOL Army blanket over my bed-spread..
I like to feel that weight and it really traps the heat.

I look at from a different direction. Almost every electric blanket I have seen has clear instructions on the label- Do Not Lie On This Blanket. It seems that the heat wires are really fragile, won"t last long if pinched or crumpled.
Another way to think about under or over for placing the heated blanket. Why put the heat source under, when there is 6 inches or more of mattress/ insulation there? Put the heat source on top, where there is very little insulation. Put the heat on top to block the escape of body heat.
A heated mattress pad is made with heavier elements, designed to be slept on.
Many people will disagree with me.

That is a difficult place to be in, I wish you well. At least you are taking care of yourself. My wife's aunt would not listen to her physician or dietician. You can pretty much figure the state of health she is in now.
Gabapentin is also used to treat peripheral neuropathy. I have peripheral neuropathy from chemo and it does seem to have improved since my doctor increased my dosage. Again, talk to your doctor.
I have 2 nieces (1 on a pump) and 2 nephews (1 considering a pump) and a grandnephew (1 year old and on a pump) who are type 1 diabetics. I am type 2 diabetic and its been 22 months since I had cancer surgery. I do understand your problems, if your doctor can't help get another deoctor.
