Last December my daughter jumped off her horse that was heading for a road, and would not stop. She knew better, as she only had a rope around the horses neck. She broke her ankle so bad she was off her fire fighter paramedic job for the city San Diego, for seven months. She started woriing in the main office in July, as she still can't walk much on the ankle. My daughter is 43, andI believe she will limp for the rest of her life. She applied for a fire inspector job, and was notified she got the job today, and will start training in a few weeks. She will get a 10% raise in pay, and a car. It really kills me to see her limping aroung when she comes to our place. I guess things seam to work out . stan

Broke mine in 07. Tib and Fib break they called it. Amounted to both bones at the ankle. Got pins, screws, plates. Tried to use it too soon. (According to the Doc) Anyway had a noticeable limp for almost a year. But finally went away. Tell her go to PT even if it hurts or seems like a waste of time. Helped me. Good luck to her in her new job and with her ankle.

Broke my ankle on 20th Oct 2 years ago, still had a limp until this past spring, got a lot of physio and insoles specially made to correct my standing position(gait?) They really made the difference. It still swells after a hard days work, and I do limp a bit for a few steps after driving the car for a long distance.....hopefully your daughter can get as well as I am and wish her well in her new job!

Wife did the same thing about 14 months ago . last week Doc said she would probably limp for the rest of her life. It's not the end of the world I tell her it's kinda cute.

My brother broke his ankle 6 months ago, still limping. Doc told him that swelling and limp is normal for a year or more. It just takes longer to heal when you get a little older

I broke my ankle 4 years ago, on a mountain bike. It never really healed up, and I ended up with a large bone tumor. I had surgery a month ago, it turned out good. I think it's really nice that she can get a new job. Most employer's just kick you to the curb.

broke mine in May 1977, pins and screw, limp by end of the day, sometimes all day depending what I have done (climbing roofs). Gotten worse now, hurts day and night, not unbearable, just pulsing thob - going back to Doc that said couldnt do anything for it 5 years ago - wonder what he will say this time. Tell her to do PT as much as they suggest - wish her all the best on injury and new job

She might come out of that limp, I had a compound fracture of my left ankle when I was 32. Spent 8 days in hosp, 2 weeks in bed and 17 wks. off work. Hurt bad and limped for close to 20 yrs. and then it just stopped. Don't hurt or limp anymore unless I sprain it a little.

I had a friend that jumped from a wagon with a run-away team back in the early 1980's. Nearly lost his foot the damage was so bad. He gets around normal these days, not much limp. But it still bothers him a great deal.
