The advance weights on my 1964 Ford 4000 4 cylinder are worn out and the little springs are missing. It has little leaf springs rather than coil springs. I'm not sure if the weights with the little leaf springs are still available, or if I need to change it out to something different.
How important is it to have the centrifugal advance working properly, and is it important enough to have a shop set it up a certain way? If I cannot find the original type weights, is there another system that is interchangeable?
Is there anyone out there that I can send my distributor to to get it repaired and tuned?
My tractor is equipped with aftermarket electronic ignition, and it seems that the drag imposed on the cam lobe is part of the resistance that moves the weights back. Mine has no such resistance now.
Thanks for your advice.
