rockin' ray on WBT radio

I don't usually have to milk nights, but today the regular milker called in sick. while I was sweeping out the parlor tonight, I got a real strong memory of doing the same thing 30 years ago, sunday nights, and listening to The Original Sunday Night Hall of Fame on WBT radio from Charlotte, NC. I had a GE superradio that pulled it in loud and clear, even though Charlotte was 675 miles away. the dj was Rockin' Ray Green. lots of drifters, coasters, platters, etc. "beach music" as he would say. good memories.

anyone else remember rockin' ray?

Being from WC OH, I didn"t hear rocking Ray, but you jogged my memory. I grew up in the milking parlor listening to Jay Gould and Bob Seavers on WOWO out of Ft Wayne IN. Jay was the farm director who"s ideas were way ahead of his time.
Thanks, Bill, for reminding us when radio was GOOD !! Tom

I remember those WOWO towers between Ft. Wayne. The signal was so strong sometimes the radio in my '53 Chevy would pick it up without being turned on. It was the station to listen to back in the 60's. Remember Nancy Lee and the Hilltoppers on Saturday morning?

I think I've heard the name, I'm sure you are familiar with this, but the reason it's called "beach music" is because many of those groups got their start playing gigs at Myrtle Beach, S.C. They still play that music a lot there. I know on Saturday nights along then, I listened to Saturday Night Gold, a syndicated program carried by one of the stations in Greensboro, NC. Then on Sunday afternoon I could pick up some station that played Beach Music for about four hours. Seems like every time I get one nailed down, they sell it and change the format, dang it!

Used to get it around Cherry Pt NC, east coast beach music that is. Quite a lot different than the west coast Beach Boys. Good stuff!

Out here in the Pacific Northwest, we listened to KJR out of Seattle, THE premier rock station. The nifty 950 on your radio dial. DJ's Lan Roberts, Larry Lujack, and the king of them all, the afternoon man, Pat O'Day. Pat is now hawking Schick Shadel alcohol treatment centers, as a satisfied former customer.

Radio was turned on as soon as we went in the milking parlor, and the last thing turned off when we left.
