Oliver 1655 FWA value

Hey guys, my dad wants to get a new tractor and has decided to trade in his Oliver 1655 4wd and loader. The dealer has offered $6500-7500 in trade on a barely used tractor. Seems to me this tractor ought to bring a bit more. Roughly 5500 hours, diesel, good rear tires, 40% fronts, big heavy loader with a 3 way valve for running a bale hugger. Fenders don't match as it used to have a Hiniker cab. Otherwise, it's in pretty good shape, straight tin. Starts and runs good.

Biggest reason for trading it is my dad wants a cab with A/C and easier to climb on and off at the age of 76 and two new hips.

Looking for a range of values to see who is off - the dealer or me. Located in NY.

Thanks,
Jake in NY

If you're trading it in, you have to remember that the dealer needs to make a dollar or two as well. So he's not going to offer you full retail price. I would say the dealer is within a reasonable range to offer you on trade in. That being said, you would probably be better off trying to sell the tractor yourself for cash for more than you were offered on trade in, and applying that cash to the purchase of a new tractor.

I have seen that same model without loader upwards of 15K. From what I see they appear to be rare and private sale brings a pretty dollar.

If you sold that for $6500, RRLund would be there the next morning to pick it up.

I am thinking that it would push $10K in my area.

I agree with Mark I would keep it at any cost if possible. To bad your so far away I would kill for that Oliver.

Location, Location, Location, If it were in Tennessee most dealers would probably laugh at re you or at most be right where your dealer is. Would be hard to sell in this part of the country, just were never many olivers sold, they are pretty much thought of as off brand, the few you see at auction seem to go cheap.

I would sure make a nice bigger brother to this one of mine.

Or a nice step up from my 2 wheel drive.

Keep it!!if at all possible.Just buy the new one outright.Often times a dealer will inflate the price of a new machine when there is a 'trade' involved. That old Oliver will still be running when that new (plastic) one is in the junkyard. You will be amazed how handy a second tractor will be...

If I were you fellows I'd try to design some way for your dad to get on and off the tractor easier because thats a great machine and guarantee what you get will be inferior

Well it is not a cream puff tractor. A livestock loader tractor takes a beating day in and day out. The dealer is offering you about what the trade value would be.

The better way to go would be to buy the other tractor out right. You can get a better price on it that way. Then sell the Oliver 1655. There are collectors that would love to have it. You should be able to get in the $10,000 range for it.

Also I would take the loader off it and sell it at a consignment sale. The loader does not add much to the value to the collector crowd and actually hurts it to many guys looking at it. The loader will bring the $1500-2500. So add that in with what the tractor will bring and you can almost double the trade value.

For a everyday working loader tractor your Dad will be happy with something newer. You did not say what brand he was looking at but I have a Oliver 1655 that I love but my JD 6400 MFWD loader tractor get ran ten times more.

Well, at least the dealer will talk to him/make an offer! If you (or your Dad) walked into a dealership out here on the prairie and tried to trade off something that "obsolete" they would be laughed out of the building!

If there isn't a hundred grand or two involved and a couple of hndred horsepower, they don't waste their time talking to you!

I would like to buy it. I know in a few years from now you will want it back. We could make a pre-arranged agreement to do so. I hate to see you sell it and never find it again. Has happened to me. Im in NW PA.

Hi Jake,

I'm over towards Norwich and wondering if you're still interested in selling your 1655? Please let me know!

Thanks,
-Dave
