I had one about like that back in 1954, it wasn't that nice of coarse. It was a flat head 6 cyl. with a flat bed, my first truck. Gave $100 for it, drove to high school, the brakes went out, did not get them fixed, later my Dad sold it for $25 to a neighbor, fixed up and drove it. Wish I had it back!!!

My 40 ford truck didn't have headlights built into fenders. mine were separate and on top the fender. I had it for 20+ years.

I'm thinkin' it's a 1940, Larry. They made similar body styles for about three years and I hate to admit it but I really don't know all the little differences.
When I was growing up we had a '40. Kinda unusual in that it had a 4cyl. engine from the factory. It was only available for a couple years. And no,it was not a tractor engine either, there were differences.
Only one I ever saw, but when I went to work at a Ford dealership, their old parts books covered that 4cyl. engine!
Thanks for the photos Larry, I greatly appreciate it!

The half ton had the headlights built into the fenders, three quarter ton and up had a different front with lights on top of the fenders.

Model year 41-42 4 cyl. in half ton used some 9N tractor parts in engine, such as flywheel,
crankshaft and intake/exhaust manifold. . They carry 9N part #s. Block , timing cover and head would be different.Block had a hole for fuel pump, timing cover had front engine mounting . head had hole for temp gauge. For 1940 I don't know what they used as my parts book does not list it.
Cam would be different too as it drove the fuel pump.

That sounds logical. The block would almost have to be different, for reasons you stated as well as needing motor mounts. All I know is that it was one weak puppy! I think it would run about sixty top end, going downhill with a good tailwind.
