Just Beat The Rain

Hooked the Massey 1105 to the IH 720 plow yesterday morning and went out and plowed 15 acres. I thought it might be a good idea to plow it now with the forecast of rain for the next few days.
The field I plowed had been left unworked for many decades and had started to turn into a brush lot. Took the New Idea cut/conditioner out there in August and cut the weeds and then took the loader tractor out and dug out the brush and small trees. The soil looked good and the ground was perfect to plow. The field is part of a farm I am leasing and is the last one of the neglected ones that I have reclaimed.

It was only a few years ago that land was almost worthless for farming and now the BTO's are grabbing it whenever they can. Takes a lot of land to keep those 1000 cow herds fed.

Sounds like what the tater growers used to do around here. They'd wait for somebody to go in and clear out the sumac and big rocks, then they'd offer more rent.

Yes that happens here too. A friend of mine took over an abandoned farm and cleared all the meadows and got the land back in shape and then last spring he went by the farm and found out that a BTO had plowed most of the land to plant corn and now had a long term lease on the place.
