Timber-- I harvested my Sunflowers today

Well the sunflowers topped out at 16' tall earlier this summer. The heads ranged from 12-18" in diamiter. Placed them on some drying racks out in the garden to dry a bit, but the seeds will shell off the heads now. All the leaves went into the compost pile. I used my chainsaw to cut the stalks down and buck them into kindling wood. Also took two complete stalks with heads over to my cousin's country restarant, and green house operation.

Sorry for the tripple pics, and had more to post, but something went crazy and said the webpage had expired. I can add to my dialog, but can't post more pics.

Dang, you beat the pants off of the row of sunflowers I planted this year. Just picked ours today, too. Got 'em drying in the garage right now.

When I plant sunflowers, they only get about 16"-18". Then the deer go down the rows and clean everything out. First time, I thought maybe groundhogs. Next time, I put trail cameras on them and it was deer. Next year, same thing. But come deer season, those things disappear. (deer)

What variety of sunflowers are these. They sure are pretty and nice ones. Thanks for sharing, Amo

Just kinda wondering if your name is Jack? Also did you use to grow beans? Seems like I may of heard something about you when I was younger.

That might be the answer for deer eating them. They sure could not eat the heads. We have tried to overpower them or plant a big enough field that they could not eat them but so far they get up about two feet high and then disappear. That is about the largest I have ever seen.

Those sunflowers stalks look like a tree. I would like to plant some of those seeds next year. The stalks had to be large to support those large heads. Hal
